My homepage will, of course, be about me! Since that is the requirement... However, my about me page will be designed in the things that make up about myself and will bring pathos to my site. The design will correlate to what I write about on the page when I reflect on my writing skills. The credibility in my homepage will be my name inserted on top of the page (since the page is about me and by me). The organization of my page’s design and making it look professional in the sense of writing as well will complete its logos.

Week 16: Ethos,  Pathos, Logos FTW!

Section B: As a writer! 

In order to connect with the audience, the writer must provide information with the use of ethos, pathos, and logos. This will insure that the audience not only is reading the information, but understanding it. 

Ethos: I will introduce ethos in three different sections, including my About Me section and my two reflections sections, where i will reflect on major assignments throughout the semester and readings given to us in order to help us with the assignments. This is done in order to establish credibility amongst the audience, showing I now have a background in rhetorical studies. This way you don’t have your audience looking at you like this, wondering if they should trust you or not. 

Pathos: In my opinion pathos is the most important aspect because of the fact that you can solidify the connection with your readers. I will present this throughout my website, specially in the reflection sections, providing opinions about past major assignments. That way I connect with people that are overly emotional…. like me. 

Logos: I will provide my audience with references of statements that i have made, ‘cause i ain’t no liar, backing up evidence and proving it came form a reliable source. 

Section C: As a designer! 

Ethos: Because i am reviewing past assignments and readings, i will be providing pictures of each, that way i show what i am talking about, providing credibility for the audience. If i add pictures, the reader will believe me because the the graphic is next to the context. 

Pathos : Even though i have not finished my design of the website, i plan to employ a theme that has to do with my semester topic, that way i provide a sense of emotion. I plan to use the Hope’s example. Her semester topic was electrical engineering ,so her website theme looked engineer-ish. 

Logos: Again, by providing pictures i will allow the reader to trust me, the writer. For example, even though not an image of the actual assignment, Adali posted a picture of feedback received by professor, showing a god response, and adding to her logos; the professor.

Your post is pretty good! I want to advise some parts, however... Logos is mainly to do with how its organized and how it appears logical to someone. On parts of your logos you explain in detail more about its credibility which falls under ethos. You could also put more details on your ethos or pay more attention when you are creating your website on its credibility in which may simply just come from you placing your name on your website. Your pathos section is done well and I think you have that part of your website solidified!

W15: Website

Expected from a graphic designer, the website is very well done and very organized. The colors are balanced and the shapes in the website are also balanced. Everything is organized and the categories are next to other categories that both relate to each other. The colors are very consistent and his logo also is repeated throughout the page. The images of the phones are also repeated throughout the website as consistency as well. The whole page is vertically moved, in which it indicates where to scroll. This website is very effective when it comes to design since it is easy to understand and most people would like the visual appeal of it , as well.

Just from a glance a the site one can tell that it nearly has no balance at all. The elements in the page are all disorganized and arbitrary. It definitely has different types of fonts, images, and etc, however, they are not balanced and do not fit well together. There are many things that are contrasting in this site, but they contrast too much and the site is too busy for the eyes. There is also no consistency within the site. The link you click on in the top are all over the place and in different colors. There is a graph in the middle that has little explanation and is too hard to read. The site is not effective at all in terms of design because the categories, colors, and images are disorganized and nonproportional. 

Section B:

My website will be organized in which the text and colors are not overwhelming to somebody else. Each page will be similar in the theme of the general websites’. On each category to click on will have the same colors and font meanwhile my images will be placed in the position that the page is pointing to. In each individual page (such as in a vertical or horizontal way). Grouping or aligning my information or links to click on that are related will help in the organization of my website as well. The colors I intend to use may either be a light pink and light orange or very light red (which resembles the color salmon). I would like to add extra images that will make my website a bit more creative like yet not too personal.

Week 15: Thinking about your website

Section A: Design principles applied?

In terms of balance, the website does a decent job. I do feel that most of the images and text are distributed in a way that they have equal weight. However, there are a few scenarios where this is not the case. For instance, the area at the bottom right corner (which contains twitter, google translator, and Skype) has three different sized boxes where I feel they should have all been of equal size.

In this site, contrast is used in areas such as the image and the explanation of what MemberVenue is. The image contains different color texts in order to described what is happening in the picture, whereas the section to the right of it explains what MemberVenue is and how much it costs to join.

The website is consistent. The reason I say this is because it uses the color yellow to make important information stand out as well as bolding the text. The rest of the site uses two shades of purple to stay uniform, but to also create differences between sections.

The website does not align the elements on the page very well. Sections should be aligned better, and not all over the place. Although the alignment is bad, the website does do a good job of grouping sections. Everything that should be together is together.

I do not feel that the website is effective in terms of its design. At a first glance, the website seems to be put together poorly with very little thought. Many elements of design are missing and the audience is left not understanding the purpose of the website.

When it comes to balance, on this website the designer does a very good job. The different images and text are distributed in ways that create a sense of equal weight.

Contrast is employed on this site by the use of five main sections. The sections are marked different from one another allowing the audience to quickly find what they need. The subheadings are in large text with the information underneath, making it easy to understand.

The website does a great job at creating consistency. By the use of five sections, the audience is able to navigate easily and in each section, elements resemble each other.  All of the headings are the same size, and you can tell the difference between them and the body text.

On this website, alignment was great. Every section had a sense of uniform and although they had different layouts, all of the elements were placed perfectly. In terms of grouping, the page made sure to keep the introduction and background information at the top that way the audience would understand just what they were going to see once they scrolled down. This was created in all five sections, and like items were put together very well.

Based on my analysis of the site in terms of design, the website was effective. The audience can easily navigate through the site and get their information effortless because it was all presented to them at the beginning with promotion at the end.

Section B: Implications for your own design:

In order to ensure that my website is balanced, I will make sure that each element of my page is equal to the other in terms of weight. This can be done by spreading out the content and using text and images that are relatively the same size or fit well together.

I will contrast my site by following the theme of the second website. By using different sized subheading text from the body text this can create the type of contrast needed.

Consistency on my website will be employed by the use of colors and same size font/style. Once the designer starts to use too many colors that do not match, or a bunch of different fonts the website becomes less effective.

By using alignment and grouping in my website the page will become more effective. This can be done by using multiple tools, not only on my mac but on different websites as well. I can create a template on a powerpoint, or piktochart to ensure all elements are aligned and grouped.

The colors that I will use for my website will most likely be black and white with a blue overlay.

Another way that I can ensure my website is well-designed is by looking at popular websites and implementing their elements on my page.

Your post has many good points to it! Especially on the second website you analyzed. That website was indeed organized and clear to attract many people to it. Your first analysis, however, I do suggest to look over mostly because the consistency is not really there even if it has the color yellow repeated or highlighted on parts of the website. Since in general the website is not very consistent and the labels are placed randomly... The rest of your analysis, however, is well done and hopefully, it helps you on your own website.

Week 14

On We are finally almost done with the research poster! Now for a timeline for how my group member and I will finish the poster…. I plan to spend 3 to 4 days a week working on the project individually or whenever I have time. 

On Wednesday, April 19th and April 26th we will work as a group, as well as once more before the presentation. We will work individually on the days in between.

On the days that we work individually, we will focus on research for our specific fields, in order to have it prepared when we have our group meetings. When we work as a group we will focus on putting our research together, the conclusion, and the visual aspect of the poster.

Specifically, we will reference the guidelines to make sure that our project can get the highest grade possible. In addition, we will collaborate with each other in order to have a cohesive project that goes well with both of our topics.

I’m most concerned with the final outcome. Specifically, bringing our ideas together so that they make sense and convey what we are trying to say about “Representation of Women” in our respective fields. I am most concerned with this because we both have two very different topics, but what with what we have mapped out so far I know we can do it.

I am most comfortable with the two columns in our poster where we talk about our individual research and our introduction section. I am comfortable with this because we have done a lot of research over the semester on our topics and I know that we can put that section together very well. 

Now, only a few more weeks and assignments to go for the semester!

Your plan for the next few weeks sounds good! It must be difficult organizing different subjects together, however, I would just suggest having more communication with your group (besides the meetings). Make sure to think about your posters design, as well! The design should be very clear and a very collaborative part of your assignment (with your group members). Just make sure to think about its visual appeal!!

W14: Action Plan

Timeline!

Week 14:

Friday: My group will meet up at the university at 2:30 p.m. to finish the design of the poster. We will discuss the sources we each decided to choose on, as well. We will discuss its main colors and if we want to stick to the layout we chose on the outline. We will be looking through websites and applications that are most appealing for each of us in terms of design and utility. I honestly would like to work on the design a lot because so far our design is too simple...During this meeting, we will all try to combine our creative sense and complete a pleasant design.

We will also be looking for pictures and creating a graph for our project that will be in the same color scheme and design as our poster. We will dedicate the afternoon to mainly visually designing the poster.

Saturday: I will work on the work I have which is organizing the results and sources. The results will be from every group member, however, I will be taking the results and making them correlate with each other on the poster. I will also be fixing any grammatical or spelling errors of the final products we will have.

Week 15:

Monday: My group will meet up most likely at 12:00 p.m. We will discuss what we have implemented together and see who has already finished their individual work. It would be best if everyone was nearly complete with their work and whoever has finished their part already we will have the afternoon to put it into the poster. We will also decide which prominent Hispanic scientists we will put on our poster as well.We already have a few names but, we must choose only 3. Our individual work is very important however not too burdensome to each member, so each category is very representative of our group work!

Thursday: I will finish my part of the work with the results and sources in the afternoon (after 4 p.m.). I will gather all the sources that we have used and organize it into our poster which should be one of the last stages for the completion of the poster.

Friday: We will meet up again in the afternoon (around 3 p.m.) and finally finish the poster. The finalizations will be of its design, organization, and format. Grouped up together, we will decide if the poster looks good and if anyone thinks there needs to be any changes. A discussion about its final design and organization will be held as well. This discussion will basically be a critique in order for our project to represent us well and look supreme!!!

Week 13

Section A:

1. Internet Inequality: The Impact of Home Internet Access on School Success

2. The poster has similar requirements to my research paper because it has information on the subject, results and a conclusion. The subheading titled “background” is the information need in order to explain the research poster which we will need in the poster we are creating. The layout of the poster is similar to the layout of the poster we are working on. There are a few differences between the posters such as the abstract and methodology.

3. The purpose of this poster is to persuade people to get internet at home because it will improve the success students have at school. The purpose is made clear in the title and then it is supported in the text.

4. The intended audience is adults who have children. The vocabulary used throughout the poster is not for children and they are trying to promote internet in households to improve the success a student has. They are targeting parents since parents want their children to succeed.

5. This poster does not display ethos because it does not have any citations that indicate where the information came from.

6. This poster displays pathos through the pictures of students leaning by using computers and by using words such as success.

7. This poster displays logos through the graph because it is showing statistics.

Section B:

1. I will use this sample to guide me while creating my poster by having balance between text and pictures. Making the font big enough so that it is legible from a good distance. Using the appropriate colors so that the text is easy to read and by making the poster flow and easy to follow.

2. My outline has not really changed after analyzing this poster because we included a place for citations and have a space for everything that was required. This has helped me keep colors and fonts in mind while I create my poster.

The points you make are good and well analyzed! I would suggest to look over the pathos, and logos of the poster, however, to find more details that you can reflect onto your own poster. You should also consider adding another section to your poster and make it fully balanced (as long as you have the requirements). In general, your points are well done but look more closely on this poster (and other posters) for more guidance on your ethos, pathos, and logos appeals!

W13: Analyzing Research Posters

1. 

The poster I decided to analyze is titled Internet Inequality.

2. 

Compared to the requirements that we must include in our own project, this poster contains few other elements such as the abstract, background and methodology sections. These sections are not required on our own poster, but the results and conclusion are. Therefore, our poster is required to focus on our main results rather than give so much space to background or general info.

3.

The objective of the poster is to show the facts and correlations of how internet inequality affects students. It gathers data from sources that show how income levels give access to the use of the internet. The purpose is clear since every category addresses its main topic that is displayed as the title. The graphs are appropriate and also correspond to the main subject. They provide enough information for each section in an appropriate manner in which is not too overwhelming in information for a poster. Their conclusion is a well balanced final summary that displays the thesis found in the results and background.

This poster is mainly directed to those who use the internet regularly in which case is usually younger people. It is most likely this reason because the topic is on the internet and the poster is on the internet as well. The facts are given easily, however, there are some larger more complex words, therefore, this poster would be mainly younger individuals who are in a higher education such as in high school or even university. The colors are bright and the information is well styled with the design of the poster which is also appealing when a younger individual is searching through the internet. The strongest aspects of this poster that would easily appeal to others, as it easily appealed to me, was the organization, design, and structure of information.

The ethos of the poster could be found in its visual and information setting. The poster is very organized and appealing to the eye, where a poster that was messy and unattractive would not look credible nor professional. The poster has some of its sources put in its methodology section in which shows how they conducted their research and what they used. The placing of their university in regards of how the university supported their research also applies a credible outlook onto the poster. There is also a graph that provides ethos to the poster to show the information they have analyzed.

Much of the pathos comes from the bringing up about the education of children. The topic of children would emotionally tie the audience especially since it mentions children who come from low-income households.The emotional aspect of the children is brought up in the picture in the middle as well. The information also explains the issues on low income communities and minorities. An emotional appeal of poverty stricken minority families could easily bring the emotion from other minorities who read the poster and could be relevant to them.

The logos is effective in this poster as it has a very good structure in presenting information and chronologically has its sections from abstract to conclusion. On the logos aspect, I believe that some of the information is a bit unorganized (in the results), however, in my own opinion-I just couldn’t understand a phrase they gave in as a fact. The rest of the poster is well done, the graph fits where the information is relevant and to the audience the poster is easy to understand.

The poster’s design is well thought out and extremely appealing. Its logos aspect is very well done and I would take its concepts into my own poster. The organization of each section and the corresponding color scheme is very appealing and makes it credible in that way as well. This poster is very balanced in how much information and visuals it gives that I would like to take from to my own poster. In every section the poster stays on its focus of how the lack of internet access affects how well children do in school which is another model for my own work.

Through my analysis of the poster I noticed that it contains a bit more sections than the requirements for our own poster’s. In the first draft of our outline we only had the requirements, however, as I was doing this assignment a bit earlier I liked the idea of adding more especially to the pathos section. We (as a group) ended up adding another section to the poster of the prominent diverse people in science that adds the emotional aspect of our work. The poster above is also very organized and designed professionally in which for the further process of our poster I will definitely try to incorporate a creative layout that will catch the audience’s attention.

Week 12

Finally! The Literature Review is done! Now it is time for a…

… ha get it? “Reflection” (; ANYWAYS….

1.     WHAT: Through my research, these past few weeks, I have learned so much about my fields and semester topic which is “Gender Diversity of Women Within Media Representation”. My research was focused on media and I have found that there are so many jobs and career paths when it comes to this field. Unfortunately, there are not very many women industry; men make up the majority of jobs in the media. Thankfully, I have found out that there are many actresses and groups, like the Women’s Media Center, that promote gender equality and strive to make the media industry a more inclusive place. The research that I have found for the literature review has proven to be more difficult than I thought it would I found myself searching for hours to find exactly what I needed. I have learned how to communicate and act professionally, when it comes to interviews and when addressing professionals.  I have also, learned that researching the academic level requires reliable academic sources and through this I now know how to use the UTEP library’s database. Overall, I have learned that creating a literature review requires a lot of time, research, and dedication in order to create the best possible paper.

2.     SO WHAT: What I have learned is important for this course, because it has taught me the fundamentals of creating a literature review through conducting research on various genres and has overall helped me improve my writing. As a future professional in the media industry, what I learned is important because it has shown me what I may have to face in the career path I have chosen, but that there are many women advocating for a change. Most importantly, I have learned that diversity is indeed a good thing.  Numbers for females in the media industry are low but they used to be even lower. As a future college grad and professional I have learned that is important to get an education and add on to my resume in order to be qualified for whatever job I choose to pursue so that way gender will not play a big role and so that I may contribute to the growing numbers of females in the media.

3.     NOW WHAT: Everything I have learned throughout this literature review has proven to be extremely beneficial, especially to someone like me who plans to pursue a career in the media. Without a doubt, a career in my desired field will include researching, interviewing, and communicating. What I have learned is the basics to what most professionals in the media must do on a daily basis.   I can put this knowledge to use when I begin classes for my major, take part in internships, or when I start working in the media.

Your research is interesting -and is even more interesting with your results! I do perceive that there is a lack of women in the media and going into the career will be difficult. However, it is pretty amazing that you will still continue in it regardless of the difficulty that is created by societal constructs! I also agree that these assignments will definitely help you in your career, as well. Your primary research was probably the most beneficial to you in your career plan, as you said, and will lead to a better outcome of being successful at what you like!

W12: Reflection

What:

I was honestly very confused about what exactly happened in medical school, but much of this research gave me a lot of background on it. My primary research probably gave me the most insightful answers about my career plan and it turned out to be a great interview! Even though I was somewhat nervous about this interview since ...it was my first. I had never specifically done a literature review, although annotated bibliographies are similar, so this was somewhat of a first for me. (Note: I have done many annotated bibliographies, hence my referencing of the annotated bibliography). This assignment was extremely helpful, I was able to delve into different categories of research that I had never taken much consideration of (between their differences). 

So What?:

The research I did was very important on my own career plan’s sake and my writing’s sake, as well. Going through my higher education I will always have to research a certain topic and most likely write about it. Because writing is such an important aspect in every part of my life, especially as a student, these assignments further has made me better aware of how I write. Such as for a research paper, remembering to keep as unbiased as possible or how to analyze sources. Complex aspects of writing is easier to understand and research that I will conduct regularly is much easier. Being able to accept different perspectives when conducting research gives me a well-rounded investigation in which will ultimately heighten my education (and knowledge). When it comes to accepting different perspectives I will apply it on political issues or societal issues. Learning to analyze and to write about my analyzation is what I basically need for everything since analyzing is one of the most important things in anyone’s daily life.

Now What?:

As I plan to go into the medical field and eventually go into a medical school I had not really known the issues that arose within the section of medicine regarding diversity. I did not think about the majority of Hispanic women who did not go to medical school either because they were not supported enough educationally nor financially. I didn’t understand what diversity meant in the most primary part of becoming a physician. Through my several categories of research, I went through, I found countless of things that greatly affected the Hispanic community when it came to a high level of education not even on just the platform of medical school. It was very interesting to find how medical schools would see me as a Hispanic woman and how that would play in my future of applying. As my current RWS 1302 professor said, I’m trailblazing. I know a lot about the status of diversity in my field and the eventual university I will attend because of this research. With this knowledge, I am even more determined to go into medical school, as a representative for Hispanics and women. From what I learned through my Rhetoric and Writing class, literature review especially, I feel better adjusted to the issues that I will face and with an added bonus of being able to interview intellectuals for certain information that I would like to know or require to know. And so, research feels 70% easier than it did before.

On your last section of this post, it would have been cool if you added more on what you were going to do with the introduction but the website does help! W11: Putting together the Literature Review

Assignment requirements?

The conclusion must: restate one’s thesis, be a closing statement about your resources value, have the subheading for the conclusion, make sure it has no opinions from one’s self, 12 point Times New Roman font, and one must generally sum up one’s entire paper.

The graphic image must: large but only enough for the reader to be able to see, be cited, explained in one’s paper, have that explanation be close to the image in the paper, and be relevant and informative to the topic.

How should it be done?

Graphic Image-

By first finding a relevant and informative image.

Then fitting it in my paper where it works under the specific category.

Making sure it’s big enough (but not too big) and citing it in APA format.

Summarizing the research I found that is on the paper.

It seems like you have everything ready for your interview from viewing your checklist! You have all things required for this assignment, however, looking closely at your drafted interview questions I feel that you should revisit some... The questions seemingly are a bit biased in just using the words “help” or “contribute”. Either try using a more neutral word or, make it a follow-up question, such as “If you agree to this then....(your original agreeing question)” Something like that... Also on your interview research questions of interpretation, I highly suggest you change the word “natives” unless you are talking about Native Americans... Something along the lines of “American’s” or “U.S citizens” or “U.S. residents”, that is, if you want to be extremely specific.

Week 8: Interview Questions

Your interview questions are all generally good! It is good to be specific with your questions since you are adhering to a certain point on your source, however, leave some room in your questions if at any point they disagree...although unlikely. Change your wording a little on the second question, by which I mean the beginning of the question. Instead of “can you agree” have a more neutral or open way to ask their opinion and avoid pressuring them to agree with you! These are just some suggestions of mine that could help you...!
