I'll always deeply appreciate this platform for allowing me to talk about and engage wholeheartedly in stuff I cared about, sharing awesome work from insanely creative people, and being an outlet that I absolutely needed during my late teenage years and my "roaring" twenties. Sometimes, I wish it wasn’t so hard to reconnect with people. It would be easy as saying “hey, how’s it going?”, but then I get anxious about how they would react. And it scales a bit worse when the last time there was interaction, it was a conflict. Maybe it’s better to leave them as they are.

It didn’t take long for me to cower in fear as I heard your barking. The first time we met, you chased me all around the neighborhood. 

I was terrified, and you probably were going to hurt me. 

At least it didn’t take long until you saw me as a friend, rather than foe.

What thoughts even existed prior to the plunge? I was having fun, the rope beckoned me, everyone waiting below was excited, and I was practically safe. The only thing to do was to swing. So I did. I landed. Cheers sounded. I was fine. Until I tried to stand.

His left arm went limp as the blade gashed through the tendon. The assailant only shrieked in rage as they prepared to strike again, not satisfied with the damage done already. 

Despite the pain, Theo knew that he had to end this assault before it was too late.

The load you’ve carried throughout your years has passed on to me.

The weight is overbearing, and I’ll consistently stumble in my stride - but in time, I’ll gain the strength to carry it through my own life.

The bright neon hues of the signs above filled her with wonder. Color poured out of every storefront, and dressed the populace scrambling past them both. He felt her hand grip tightly, but her gaze didn’t break. 

Everything felt different. Much different.

“Don’t you think that was kind of mean?” 

“Mean how? You break up, there’s slight silence, we try to talk it out - establish some rules of engagement, things seem okay, shit happens, and now I'm persona non grata.”

“What do you mean?” 

“Don’t be a smartass.”

A familiar click in the door sounded - way ahead of schedule. Elliott raced upstairs in a panic. All the goodwill earned was about to go up in flames. Never mind the extra chores done or being nicer to Rosemary - the shoddy state of their room would seal their fate.

The spending power of this household shifted entirely to her, with my access to the funds effectively curtailed. At least I have this jumbo bag of gummy worms, so who’s the real loser now?

 "What is?"

"Isn't it odd how humans decided that the optimal way to walk is on two legs?"

"Pretty sure that's evolution at work, bud."

"Still makes you think, yeah?"

"Like how you included a hashtag, but I clearly ignored it?"
