Patrician Grill (Forever Knight, due South filming location) sold, closed; sign coming down
The Patrician Grill in Toronto - filming location for some pivotal scenes in the 90s TV series Forever Knight and due South - closed on May 9, after the owners announced in April that they sold the restaurant so they could finally retire. It has been in the same family since 1967, serving local patrons (and as a filming location for the Canadian film industry in Toronto).
Tom Melissis (who played Dewey in S3(/S4) dS) shared photos of the iconic Patrician Grill sign being taken down on the Due South By South East Facebook group.
So to finish late for Ray Vecchio Day 2025, I had the idea of design Mr. Gonzo a fancy shirt. To replace all the ones he got wrecked. Then my pencil crayons got ganked by my niece lol.

I've tried my hand at designing a couple more shirts for RayV :)
this idea was something I kept coming back to when I wanted to make ds art, but i never had an idea of what i wanted to do, but I was just recently inspired by the colors of some flowers I saw! which led to me making the blue shirt, and that was quite fun so I decided to try making one with a more geometric pattern to it. It was fun trying to capture the Specific Energy of Ray's wardrobe! I definitely want to try this again 😅
I like yours with the triangles! it feels very much like it captures Ray's Fashion Vibe of bright colors and fun geometric patterns, also the blue/green would really bring out his eyes :)
Long rambling post ahead! I took notes after the show so I made this based off those notes :)
PG plays Vladimir (Didi) and Tom McCamus plays Estragon (Gogo)
Whenever Didi wants to embrace Gogo, he stands with his arms spread wide. Also it was very sweet every time Didi and Gogo did hug. Twice they hugged while one of them was standing on a lower step so when they hugged there was a height difference and it was very tender ond sweet
PG-isms on display - the way he shakes his hands and wiggles his fingers (especially for emphasis while he speaks), the way his voice will slide up and down and crack (especially when expressing incredulity or other strong emotions), his tongue (of course)
There's a moment where Didi calls Gogo's name and PG does it in such a small and soft voice higher pitched than his normal speaking voice, it is the TINIEST "Gogo"
the conversations between Didi and Gogo are very circular and ping-ponging and the back-and-forths were very fun to watch
Gogo has a deep booming voice that carries loud and far into the audience, Didi's voice was softer (and harder to hear at times when PG was turned away from where we were seated)
EVERY TIME PG TOOK HIS HAT OFF HIS HAIR WOULD FLOP AROUND 😍 my whole heart, seeing his white hair under the theater lights was magical
i liked the physical comedy bits they did as well:
(1) Didi and Gogo chase each other around the stage, stomping and bumping their shoulders together
(2) Didi, Gogo, Pozzo, and Lucky all end up in a pile on the stage. Pozzo and Lucky collapse when they enter in Act 2. I thought it was very funny the way Pozzo kept repeating "Help" in a small wheezing voice while Didi and Gogo discussed whether or not they should help them. Didi eventually decides to help Pozzo, but just ends up pulling Pozzo over onto Lucky and then falling over on top of both of them. When Gogo is eventually convinced to help Didi, he also ends up falling and lands on top of Didi. And so the four of them lay in a pile on the stage and Pozzo asks, so very bewildered, "What is happening?" 😂
(3) Didi helps Gogo try on a new pair of boots. The new pair are on the ground in front of the two of them. Gogo lifts his foot up really high and then just kinda smooshes it onto the boot until Didi grabs his leg and the boot and shoves it onto Gogo's foot while they stagger around intertwined. Gogo then takes a very silly walk around the stage (which would seem to imply that the boot DOESN'T fit) and then pauses and very simply declares, "It fits." Gogo goes to put the second boot on and tries to put his already booted foot in the second boot. Then he gives Didi a very cheeky grin and switches to his unbooted foot. They then do the whole process again (Didi grabbing Gogo's leg, shoving the boot on, staggering in a circle) and Gogo repeats the silly walk around the stage and declares that the second boot fits too.
Didi takes off his overcoat at one point to put it over Gogo :') which was very sweet and also meant that we got to see PG in the suit he was wearing under the overcoat <.<
In Act 2, when the tree has sprouted some leaves, Didi sees the leaves and throws his arms wide and makes an expression of pure joy like he's seen something truly miraculous
PG sings twice(!) in Act 2 - The first song is right at the opening of Act 2. The second song (a lullaby for Gogo, which is just the word "Bye" over and over again), he sings in a sort of garbled warbling voice that sounds like he has marbles in his mouth, he's a bit pitchy and starts off wayyy too loud for a lullaby 😆
One of the times that Pozzo and Lucky depart, Pozzo, Didi, and Gogo all repeatedly shout "Adieu!" at each other with increasing intensity and emphasis, I found this bit very amusing. Didi keeps one of his hands raised high in the air in farewell throughout this bit and keeps raising it a smidge higher with each "Adieu!"
also, a Due South-related fun fact!
Tom McCamus was in an episode of Due South! He plays Jimmy Donnelly in Gift of the Wheelman (thank you @gjdraws for this info! i did not know this until after i saw the play)
Remember when Kevin Crocker managed to goad Jake into (1) leaving his girlfriend, (2) who'd just lost her father to murder, (3) to drive all the way to prison so (4) Jake could break the glass down and have a dust-up with him?
Special mention to Jake being the physical embodiment of this emoji 🥹upon meeting Crocker after he's been exonerated:

YALL I WENT TO SEE WAITING FOR GODOT WITH A FRIEND AND WE MET PG AT THE STAGE DOOR AND IT WAS AMAZING AND I CRIED AFTERWARDS BC I WAS SO HAPPY
i got a pic of the stage before the show started and bought a magnet at intermission :)
and i have a bunch more stuff to share!!! (about the play and about meeting pg and about seeing some due south locations around toronto) please forgive me for the amount of rambling that is about to occur i am just so excited, the trip was awesome and i am so grateful i had the opportunity :)
