In Memoriam
Four years ago, I found love at first sight. Every time I looked at them, I’d fall in love all over again. Just seeing them made me happy, and they were so...me. So familiar, and comforting; they had been right there with me through thick and thin, with me literally every step of the way. So when the soles wore down and the insides got ratty and faded, I promised my mom I’d throw them out. But when I would pick them up and look them right in their little daisies, I’d freeze. I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t throw out such a vital piece of me. I wore them everyday; the shoes and I were one being.
So when one was tragically mauled by my friend’s very cute dogs, and the other was claimed by them and designated as their new chew toy, I was devastated. The days are different now. When I walk by the front door and don’t see them there, I feel empty.
On the bright side, they were getting tight and were long past any shoe’s rightful lifespan. I will never forget my quirky shoes.
As a blog that also documents the evolution of my personality, I feel like they deserve a few bytes.
In memoriam of a very faithful pair of shoes. May they be forever immortalized on the internet.
