“A person would come up with sheep pun names for a sheep town, wouldn’t they? The alternative is that the sheep are self-aware of their own bleeting which…that’s just weird.” So yes, Aru agreed that was a weird thought not to be developed on.

As Wakako closed the lid of the box to take a peak at the name printed on it, Aru leaned in to do the same. Of course, it was only a moment before she realized her face was too close to the other woman for comfort, prompting her jolting back suddenly and Aru grunting in slight pain from the whiplash.

“Ahhh….that figures really. Bread & Bakery isn’t exactly a name that sticks with you. Or maybe…it’s so generic that it stands out amongst all the bad pun names. Who knows?” And with that save, Aru took one last bite of her own donut. “I think getting more of these donuts would be worth any confusion really.”

Even if she couldn’t afford the donuts, if the bread is this good she’d be a regular customer anyway

Hmm... She hadn’t thought about the marketing strategy, both behind the sheep-based names, but also the unoriginal one of this specific bakery. It might indeed be entirely possible that it’s blandness makes it stand out, thereby being really good at drawing attention.

Wait, Wakako had walked in and ordered these donuts, hadn’t she? Would that mean it had worked on her, without her even noticing?!

... Ah, the power of well-thought advertising is something that eludes her still. Well, it’s not like she has a job where she has to do any of those things, so it’s okay if she doesn’t get it, right?

“... I might’ve fallen for their tricks. But I suppose it was worth it with this quality.”

In the modern world of today, it might be hard to get well-known if all you have is quality, and no way that draws any attention to you. Well, there’s so many stores, after all, it’s not surprising. People won’t know about your quality if you don’t get them in first; in this case with a bland name.

Huh...

“... I might go back if I find myself looking for some donuts again. It’s hard to pass up good quality, even when you want to try out new things. I’d feel bad if I bought a bad donut somewhere just because I got curious...”

She’d have to think this one through some more at home, probably. Eating in many places, trying different things, it’s what she did- but sometimes you just want to eat what you know you want.

“Mhmm... It looks like... We essentially emptied the entire box, huh. Then I guess, it sure must be getting late.”

Aru took another bite as she listened to the Italian restaurants Wakako mentioned. Vegetarian pasta and pizza sounded very good, well, the barbecue sauce on pizza and homemade pasta didn’t sound bad either really, but vegetarian pasta sounded just very appeasing to her.

“Baario’s Veggie Italy, I see…Pewezzaria too…who comes up with these names?” She chuckled lightly; the naming thing was something she had noticed from the very beginning but…it felt good to have someone to comment on it on with.

“I might check out Baario’s if I have an excuse though, that sounds like a good time, mmhm!” Another bite of the donut. She had grabbed this one at random but the blueberry cake donut was definitely a good catch. Not that any of the donuts she had grabbed weren’t good catches mind.

“Where was the bakery where you got these anyway? I will definitely, ah, have to give them a visit sometime.” She gave a content sigh. “Very good donuts…”

“Probably... The sheep. If a person came up with those names, I’d be... Concerned.”

So far, most sheep-based names she’d encountered seemed to be thought up by the sheep, which would mean they are in some extent self-aware of their own sheepdom. It... Was a weird thought, so she stopped that thought train before it left the station.

As for the donuts... She hadn’t stopped to check the name of the bakery when she entered, but it should be fine if the name was on the box, right? She made a little hum as she ate the donut she was still holding so she’d have a hand free, closing the lid of the box temporarily to take a good look at what the name was.

“Ah-”

“... It’s just ‘Bread & Bakery’, it seems...”

She was almost disappointed. Maybe a very unimaginative sheep... Or person. A ram had been behind the counter when she’d gone and bought these, but that didn’t mean it was owned by sheep.

“Well... Uhm, bland name aside,” she opened the box slowly again, taking one of the last few donuts and holding it up, “the donuts sure aren’t. Bland, I mean. They’re very good. Nice and sweet and chewy, but not overly sugary sweet, it’s quite subtle...”

Aru listened intently as Wakako listed off various recommendations. It…was strange that Stella City itself had no specialty or the like, you’d think intelligent sheep would have unique tastes in meals or something. It was a little disappointing even.

But still! She made mental notes as Wakako spoke: She had never been a bar goer but cheese tempura sounded lovely… she’d passed the cafe several time but didn’t know about strawberry shortcake….she never had tamagoyaki but she liked egg dishes…takoyaki might be a nice change of pace…

“Aru? What I like…?” She had been slumming it on fast food and easy to prepare meals in a while she actually had to wrack her head on what really made her taste buds water other than sweet baked goods like donuts. She always liked…hmm, there is a restaurant she and her mother had always enjoyed when they had the money. It served pasta and breadsticks…”Hm. I liked Italian when I was younger…”

“And sweet foods of course!” she quickly added as she grabbed another donut and took a bite out of it. They were cooling down a bit, but they were still just delicious to her at least!

Hmmm, so... Italian foods, and sweet foods. Wakako assumed that with the latter, Aru meant pastries and cakes and the likes, rather than meals with just a sweet sauce over it.

She tried to think of a good place to eat Italian foods, momentarily forgetting about the box of donuts in her lap until the weight shifted from Aru taking another from the box. She mulled it over once more as she took what seemed to be the last donut with cream filling from the box, taking a bite as she remembered a good place she’d gone to.

“Hrm..! There’s a relatively small place, if I remember right it’s called Baario’s Veggie Italy. They serve vegetarian pastas and pizzas... It’s very good. But if you like meat on them... Then down that street is Pewezzaria Place... They have a good barbecue sauce on their pizza... And homemade pasta...”

Wakako had to admit, Italian food is something she did not eat as often in comparison to other dishes- but she liked to think she could recognise a decent pasta, at least, and a proper crisp pizza crust. For what it’s worth, she knew her own tastebuds very much liked the food in these two places. Surely there were more good ones out there, but these she’d visited and deemed worthy of a good customer base.

“For sweets... I don’t eat many, but I also enjoy Castella Café... And, the bakery where I got these, of course. I decided, when I ate the donuts, that these donuts... Are very good donuts.”

“Mm!” Aru hummed in affirmation, she didn’t fully get what Wakako meant but there was something poetic in what she was saying. She had never considered the situations in which to eat different foods, but the proper atmosphere and mood did add to the enjoyment of a meal. That much she could definitely agree with, even if she didn’t quite grasp the nuance just yet.

“It did. I didn’t think it would, just a dark place secluded from the hustle and bustle, but the stench really subtracts from the taste and the cramped griminess just…killed the mood.” It wasn’t even fancy food or something nice like this, but it was a bad enough experience that Aru wasn’t going to repeat it any time soon.

Yeah, atmosphere and mood did matter. Situation was important, she was definitely onto something there.

“While we are on the subject…” She didn’t want to dwell on that to be completely honest. “What are some dishes you’d recommend around Stella. Like, local dishes or something.”

Even as she said this, she was reaching her hand in for another donut.

“Hmm, local dishes..?”

Wakako actually fell silent for a moment as she thoroughly mulled this one over. She’d eaten many a thing here since arriving in Stella City... This was her seventh month here, after all, so she’d gotten to try many different things that she’d been in the mood for. But, even so, she had to admit that she hadn’t seen any particularly ‘Stella City’-esque foods that she couldn’t get anywhere else. Sure, some of the names had a pun in them, or were tailored to fit the aesthetic of the area, but... At the core, still the same type of food.

Ah, and no mutton, of course, though she felt that one to be a rather natural thing, seeing as the main residents of this city were, in fact, sheep.

However, of the things she had eaten here, several had stood out to her specifically, just because they had nailed the taste of the dish just right.

“Hmm... They’re not necessarily local, as in, this is the only place you can get them, but I did eat some interesting things around here...”

She gave herself a moment to recall her experiences up until now, making sure she got all the food and their locations matched up right.

“Ah, so, near Hummingbird Hotel... There’s a little bar. Their cheese tempura is really good... The cheese is very melty, and super stringy, and full of flavour...”

Not everybody liked sitting in bars like she did, however, so she tried to think of a few other locations on the fly, finding that she actually had been to quite some varied places over time.

“Hmmm... Near Buckanan Street, there’s a quite sizeable café. I didn’t eat a lot there, but I think their strawberry shortcake is very good... There’s a little side-street too, with a diner... It focuses on egg dishes, I think. I like their sweet and salty tamagoyaki a lot. Oh, and! There’s a little food stand in Candyfloss Center! It has good takoyaki.”

What else had she eaten..? So many things came to mind. She’d eaten great agedashidofu, amazing pasta of various kinds, and some positively incredible curry! She couldn’t recall where she’d eaten the latter, however, so probably best to not get Aru’s hopes up...

“... I’ve eaten in many places, huh. And yet, to recall everything all at once... So, that’s what I have for now. Is there a specific kind of food you like..? Japanese? Italian? Korean? French? Hearty foods, sweet foods..? Maybe... I can think of some others...”

She nodded, then tilted her head as she spoke. “I’ve never had a regular job before, so I guess I’ve conditioned myself to go to work everyday, even if today I didn’t have to.” She extended her arm, gesturing towards the general direction of the Candyfloss Center. “I work the night shift over at Woolzards. It’s like a…hobby shop over in the Candyfloss Center. Well, not like it is one…”

Donuts in the fresh air of quiet park after overtime at work did sound like a good move really. She must be too tired for the hustle involved with going out…Wait a moment.

“You said you go out to eat after work usually? Like, most of the time?” She already struck Aru as someone with good taste in sweets with the selection of donuts, but perhaps she was actually very well read on food. Like some sort of informal traveling food connoisseur or the like.

She let out a laugh at her last comment though. “Oh definitely definitely. As someone who had eaten food in a back alley before, I wouldn’t recommend it for anything really, especially not something as high quality as these.”

Oh? A hobby shop? Well, that sure sounded more interesting than the average supermarket or convenience store cashier job, if she had to be honest! She assumed they were still irregular days with a lot of standing rather than sitting, but... Well, you probably got at least a few more people around that had a genuine interest in your stuff, right?

“Mhmm, yes, I do. I consider eating different kind of foods a hobby of mine. There’s so many interesting foods to eat, but then when you consider the situations in which to eat them? Sometimes, there is only one right answer, because it is only a local dish; so you eat them as the locals. But with other dishes, it varies per person, and per region, or even per country. Thinking about this, and then eating the right things in the right situation... It makes it better, I think.”

Well... A bit long-winded for Wakako, probably, but it was true, wasn’t it? ... Right? Oh, well, not that Wakako would take any alternatives as truth anyways, so she would not even try to agree with any corrections someone might try to give her. If it was a correction on food history, or the right situation, then sure! But not on the concept itself.

Ah, but... Aru had eaten in a back alley before? Well, she may have had her reasons, so she would try not to comment, but...

“... That can not have been a tasty food experience, then. Surely, it’d diminish the flavours, I assume...”

Despite only being a bartender in training, Hajime had a flawless record of staying professional while on the job. Or at least that had been the case until on one fateful evening Murasaki had single-handedly broken his professional spirit by ordering something unholy.

“I need those!”

“Eh? Hinata-kun, you don’t need that many...”

She could see them, right there, behind him- that’s way too many maraschino cherries to ever eat in a week..! Even for her! Most people don’t even eat them anyways- which is an absolute disgrace, really.

“... Hinata-kun. You know no one eats those when you put them in their drink. Why? Because they are weak people. Give them to me instead. I’ll give them a good home.”

She took another bite of the donut, licking her tongue up to the center to catch the cream from the center before it leaked down onto her hoodie, and gave Wakako a nod. “Yeah, I suppose so. I wouldn’t go by it if I didn’t think it sounded at least cute.”

Another bite, another lick. This was a process she hadn’t had in years, but was pleased to be able to resume. Ah the memories The donut the other woman had pulled out and was eating looked just as delectable; once again Aru had to compliment the woman on her taste in donuts.

“Something like that. I was actually cutting through the park on my way to work and then realize….I didn’t have work today.” Another bite, this one licking the cream out from the donut, leaving only the side opposite the one she started on remaining.

“To be honest, I was enjoying myself so much I nearly forgot why I was out here. What about you?”

“Hrm..? You went to work even though you had a day off..?”

Wakako wondered shortly what that was like... She worked a full-time office job, so she worked in a set pattern of hours. Start each day at the same time, end each day at the same time, have the same day in the week off...

“Ah. Then, perhaps, do you work irregular hours..?”

Many jobs had irregular hours after all, or just irregular schedules in their entirety. She was pretty sure supermarket jobs were like that, as well as food service jobs. Not that she knew personally about the latter- but she too had worked in a convenience store when younger. Perhaps Aru also worked at a convenience store or something of the sorts?

As for Wakako...

“... I had to work overtime today. Normally I go out to eat something somewhere after work, but I was very tired today, so I wanted to eat in fresh air and away from clustered tables.”

She loved going to bars, restaurants, diners... Whatever was open and would serve her the food she felt like eating. She didn’t mind people, either. They were living their own lifes apart from her, and she enjoyed listening in on the conversations. 

She had just really been in the mood to eat outside today, however, or at home. She just couldn’t wait to eat the donuts she’d bought until she was home, so eating outside was what she’d decided on on the spot.

“It’s why I bought the donuts... I don’t have to eat those where I buy them. I can take them home, or to a park, or in a back alley... Not that I’d eat in a back alley. That’s an insult to the food.”

“Aru! I didn’t mean…i don’t think…er…you don’t look like a grandmother?” Aru couldn’t stop stumbling over her words, having no intention of offending the other woman or insinuating she was particularly old. She was definitely older than Aru herself, but in a young adult way not in a…you know what, Aru was derailing that train of thought right there.

Instead she motions her hand towards the box of donuts, her mind racing over which one she should try next. There were so many still in there, so much to choose from….yeah, a cream filled donut would do. Reaching in and pulling it out, she shot a warm smile towards Wakako and gave another nod of thanks before taking a bite.

“It’s a name given, not one I picked myself.” she said between bites, finally answering Wakako’s earlier comment. “I grunted once when someone asked for a name and it stuck.” Another bite. “I think it’s a good name though, so I kept using it.”

Wakako couldn’t help but laugh softly at Aru’s stumbling; if anything, mostly because she was so similar. It had gotten less over the years, but... Even now, with close friends from college, the wrong question could throw her off-guard and she’d stumble over her answer for a full minute.

It’s what made going out to eat food by herself so much easier.

As Aru picked another donut, Wakako took one out of the box as well. It had pink glazing, and looked tooth-achingly sweet. Wakako didn’t eat a lot of these kind of sweets, as she considered herself having an adult palette... But sometimes it was good to eat something you normally really wouldn’t have, right? It’s nice to change things up.

She ate slowly as she listened to Aru speak about her name. That was an unusual way of getting a name, but... If it suited her, then that’s what mattered, right?

“Well, then... If they gave you that name, and now you introduce yourself with it... Then didn’t you kinda pick that name because you liked it?”

Or, that was how Wakako viewed it to simplify it for herself.

Regardless...

“So... What brought you out so late and to the park? You don’t seem to be in any hurry... Just a stroll, then..?”

Aru wiped her mouth, both to remove excess glaze and frosting from her lips and to preemptively stop any unwanted drooling. Geez, her body really was reacting to the sweet and fluffy donut. She hoped she didn’t come off as just some starving weirdo.

Her desire to ask for another probably wouldn’t have helped that notion; they haven’t even exchanged introductions yet have they? Of course, it seems the woman had the same idea though, as she did just that. Wakako Murasaki then. She’ll remember that.

“I’m called Aru.” She smiled and laughed softly. “Don’t worry, I’m not good at introductions either.”

Feeling a little more comfortable even from that small exchange of names, alias in her case, she rose her hand towards the donut box and pointed. “Can I have another donut Miss Murasaki…Wakako?”

Just one more couldn’t hurt, she told herself, no need to worry.

“Aru? I never met someone with that name before...”

She might’ve come of more rude than she had intended; in reality, she was just stating her thoughts. It was a unique name! She had never heard it before. Maybe a nickname..? Regardless, Aru it was. She’d make sure to remember.

Ahh... ‘Miss Murasaki Wakako’ though... It’s true she was 26, but... She wanted to feel adult, but not old...

“... Ah, Aru, just calling me ‘Wakako’ is fine. Otherwise, I’ll start to feel like an old lady, or a grandmother...” Not that she had any kids, let alone grandchildren, but the sentiment was there. She was a young adult woman fresh in the workforce..! Is what she told herself. She’d finished college a while ago already... But not that long, either..!

“Ah! And, sure,” she held the box towards Aru again. She felt that like this, the box would surely be finished by the end of the day. She had a suspicion she would’ve finished it by herself as well, but like this surely it would be empty at the end.

That was fine. Food was meant to be eaten, after all, not to sit around and be thrown away! Eat to your heart’s content!

just hours ago eve discovered the kitchens in the moonpie motel. unfortunately for her, eve wasn’t much of a cook. she could cook simple things but it had been awhile so she knew it would require practice before she could make something edible. and even if she could, eve found that she was far too hungry to do it herself.

all of that leads eve to her current predicament; finding a place to eat. oh, if only she could find someone to recommend some places before she starves. thankfully for eve, it seemed liked today was her lucky day because as soon as she thought that she saw a women walking down the way. eve approached her to get her attention. “excuse me, miss? you wouldn’t happen to know any good restaurants around here, would you?”

To Wakako, another day at work meant only one thing: another day of trying new delicious food. Where would she go today, what would she eat? Was there a type of cuisine she longed for, a certain flavour? Was it fish, meat, vegetables, maybe even potatoes?

As she pondered all her options walking down the street, checking every little place she saw on the way, she had begun to form some ideas. She’d go and eat fish, at the very least. She didn’t know which ones yet, but she’d figure out soon enough!

Her train of thought was disrupted however, as someone approached her to ask her a question. And what a question it was! Yes, they had absolutely come to the right person! If there was one thing Wakako knew, it was food!

“... Ah! I, uhm, I do know some places.”

If there was one thing Wakako didn’t know, however, it was how to formulate decent sentences in one go. Just answering with a ‘yes’ was clearly not what the other had intended when they’d asked the question, so Wakako took a moment to think of her next sentence before continuing.

“I was going to, uh... Look for a place to eat some fish. They’re down the road, over there,” she pointed in the direction to ensure the other would know which way it was, “... I was going to see where I was going to eat. Uhm, if you like fish, that is. If you don’t, I could probably take you to another place you’d like more..?”

Aru nodded back at the woman. “Y…yes. It’s very good. You…have good tastes!” She didn’t know if the woman had specifically picked out each donut or just went for variety but even the basic taste and composition of the donut felt good in her mouth.

Of course, it could have just been so long since she had a fresh donut.

Her other question caught her a bit off guard. She…admittingly was feeling somewhat glum before sitting down here. Not over anything in particular, at this point it was her default mood. Had this woman inferred it? Maybe the contrast in her mood before and her mood eating this delicious donut? She was probably overthinking it.

Either way, she gave another nod back. “It really has been a long time since I had a donut, thank you again!” Giving a smile at the woman, she took a few more delightful bites, finishing the donut off.

To hear she had good tastes... How exquisite..! Of course, Wakako knew this herself, but- getting compliments on her passion... It’s good.

“... Then, I am glad you got to eat one.”

Some people argued for eating only certain kinds of foods to remain healthy and take proper care of yourself; Wakako argued that if you loved the food, it was fine, as long as you took care of yourself. If you wanted to eat a donut every day for an entire week, then why shouldn’t you? Of course you should eat proper meals, too- but moreso because a single donut would not be enough to go an entire day on. But why not have that daily donut if you wanted it?

That’s what a genuine food appreciation is all about..!

She waited as the other finished her donut, unsure of what to do now- should she offer another? It’s not that she minded doing so, but would that be considered pushy? Or would it be weird, because she was just a complete stranger...

Oh, but if being strangers was the problem, then, maybe...

“... Hrmm. I never introduced myself. My name’s Wakako Murasaki.”

Well... There you go, then! That is step one after all, right?

Aru couldn’t help but notice the woman staring at her as she chose, was Aru edging towards one she wanted? Or was she more curious as to the one Aru would choose? She supposed one could infer a few things about another by the kind of donut they went for first, perhaps. Well, it seemed to work out in the end; with Aru’s words of thanks, the woman returned the gesture with a thumbs up.

It seemed the two were content to just eat their donut in silence, a comfort really. Aru felt relaxed that the woman wasn’t prying into the stranger who asked her for a donut, but considering how long it took for one to realize the other was there they both seemed pretty kept to themselves.

She took another bite of her donut, making sure to rub the chocolate icing on her tongue. She was eating somewhat slowly and indulgently, but it really had been a while and the donut was a welcome and missed taste. She wondered if she should do something to pay the woman back for her kindness, even if it was just for the one donut…

Wakako continued to eat her donut, keeping quiet until she had finished her own, and then waiting for a moment where the other seemed in between bites, rather than in the middle of one.

“... Was it good? Feeling a bit better?”

Well, the first question was asked mostly out of politeness; it wasn’t hard to tell that she was enjoying her donut quite a bit. Which was good! So if it was good, then it would be okay to ask about it, because the other wouldn’t have to feel uncomfortable and have to lie about liking the donut!

The latter question, mainly in how overly grateful she had sounded after taking a bite out of the donut. Had she been hungry? Had she had a lack of sugar? Just not eaten a donut in a long time? Fighting the craving an entire day?

Those were all tough struggles, you know! Not a single one of those scenarios should be underestimated! Food is vital to a person, in more than one way, after all. Not being able to eat something that you want to... A hell Wakako knew. She would not wish it upon any other food enthousiast, nor any other person in general, really.

Aru had to stop herself from drooling as soon as she saw the variety of confections in the woman’s donut box. A fair number of simple glazed ones, but also several covered in frosting and sprinkles, coated in chocolate, shaped like spindly stars, filled with jelly… So many choices, she couldn’t decide.

Should she go with one of the glazed ones, an old familiar? Maybe something more exotic? One that the woman had at least two of, she didn’t want to take something the woman may have been looking forward to. Her hand moved towards a simple donut covered with chocolate frosting, there seemed to be a few of those, that would be alright.

She stick her finger through the hole of the donut and slowly lifted it out of the box, her fingers grasping it after she was sure she wouldn’t bump the surrounding donuts. Gloves or no, she doubted the woman wanted a stranger rubbing on her donuts too much.

 She brought the donut to her mouth and took a bite, her mouth filled with a familiar yet calming sweet flavor she couldn’t help but swoon in delight. It really had been too long. She turned back to the woman and managed to squeak out a quiet yet joy filled “Thank you…”

Wakako may have been staring a little too intently as the other person decided on which donut to take. She wasn’t even worrying about which one would be chosen, or anything of the sorts. She was just... Trying to estimate which type of donut the other would like. Every donut is, in its own way, a good donut, sometimes even better than normal depending on the situation. But everyone had a favourite type. Wakako’s favourites were the glazed ones, for example, but they got even better if you warmed them up at home so the glazing would become warm and soft again. Yet she knew that other people thought the molten glazing would be gross.

Different tastes and all that. Though she wouldn’t admit to being a little miffed that someone couldn’t appreciate a certain way a food could be eaten in.

Instead of continuing with her own donut right away, she kept her eyes glued on the other as they picked up a donut and took a bite. She couldn’t look away until the moment she was sure the other had liked it; in return, Wakako just gave a smile and a thumbs up.

She turned back to her own donut, resuming her own little taste journey. The silence was, in a way, comfortable, rather than awkward, at least to Wakako. Introductions could be made after the other person had finished eating their donut; no need to force someone into conversation while eating. Talking meant less eating time, after all.

Aru had the night off due to a sudden shift in scheduling, though due to the sense of routine she had forced herself into she found herself cutting through the Starlight Garden on the way to work anyway. She caught herself eventually, but since she was here she might as well enjoy the sight of starlight shining down on the flowers right?

Was this why it was called the Starlight Garden? It was very pleasant. She was so absorbed in watching the flowers that she didn’t notice the other woman sit down on the bench until the familiar aroma filled her nose.

The woman’s sudden comment broke what little remained of Aru’s focus on flower viewing and she had to see what the woman was eating. Sure enough, a box filled with a large variety of fresh donuts sat in the woman’s lap. Aru couldn’t help but stare, they looked to delectable…

It had been a long time since she had a donut, even if they were once one of her favorite treats.  Maybe she could ask for just one…? “Hey…” OK, you can do this. “Can I…have one of those?”

It took Wakako all too long to not only remember a person had been sitting next to her, but also to realise that they had actually addressed Wakako. She must’ve looked a fool, just staring down her donut as she processed the question she’d been asked..!

Finally, she turned to the person besides her, ready with an answer.

“... Oh! Yeah. Of course, uhm, here you go.”

She held out the box with her one free hand. It had an assortment of donuts in there; not just the ones with a simple sugar glazing (though they seemed to take up the majority), but also a variety of shapes of donuts, with different coloured glazings, decorations and sprinkles. She had no idea which ones the other might like, so she just hoped that there was at least one they would like. It’d look double bad on Wakako if not only she failed to reply in a timely manner, but then also offered only things the other wouldn’t enjoy.

Well... She didn’t really know what to say about it, but it should be fine? After all, even though Wakako was perfectly capable of finishing off all these donuts and then go back home to eat (at least) three portions of homemade stew, it was probably a much better option to actually not eat all these sweet things by herself.

There’s only so much one can do and eat when you have to work overtime. One of the things you can’t do is going out to eat in a lengthy and enjoyable manner. Or, well, you could, if you wanted to go through the rest of the week feeling entirely deprived of a sufficient amount of sleep, just because you strayed from your usual sleeping routine for just a single time.

Considering the amount of energy she showed on a daily basis, that was not what Wakako felt like how she wanted the rest of her week to be.

So, rather than going out to eat, she’d stopped by a bakery (which, thankfully, was still open), and gotten herself a box of donuts of various kinds. She’d picked them at random, judging entirely on what looked good to her in a single glance. Even so, she’d been excited to give them a try.

So excited, in fact, she couldn’t help herself. She couldn’t wait until she was home. So when she passed by a bench with an empty spot in Starlight Garden, she sat down and opened the box promptly, taking out a donut and only giving it a short, appreciative glance before stuffing her mouth with it.

“Fshuuuu... The texture... So soft and fluffy, but also so chewy in your mouth. The simple sugar coating elevates it to an entirely different level...”

She muttered the words to herself out loud, so lost in appreciating the flavour and texture of the donut she’d all but forgotten about the person who had been sitting next to her on the bench.
