everything was going perfectly according to plan. chan picked up a beautiful bouquet of y/n's favorite flowers and presented them to her when he picked her up. the conversations between the two flowed naturally as the festivities of the wedding went on. he even managed to win over a few of y/n's aunts, uncles, and younger cousins (who mostly just liked climbing on chan).
"i'm really glad you found someone like him, honey," y/n's mother said with a smile. y/n couldn't help but smile as well as she looked over at chan, who was currently racing three of her younger cousins.
"yeah," y/n sighed dreamily, "he's a great guy."
"i was so worried when you mentioned you were bringing someone out of the blue," her mother chuckled, "i thought it was going to be some random guy so you could stop my nagging."
y/n felt her palms grow sweaty because, in fact, this is exactly what her mom was describing. but... is it really anymore?
"w-what?" y/n stammered. "you and that crazy imagination of yours, mom!" a nervous chuckle left her lips.
"regardless, i'm happy someone like chan is in your life. you looked like you were glowing when i saw you two walking in together."
y/n felt her cheeks heat up. she was about to respond when the perfect person ran up to interrupt the mother-daughter conversation.
"sorry mrs. y/l/n, do you mind if i steal your daughter for a minute?" just as chan asked the question, the upbeat pop music started to fade into a slow song. the young kids who had populated the dance floor began to disperse as couples took over the center stage.
"of course, dear." she beamed at chan, "i need to go find my husband anyway."
chan held out his hand with a smile, and y/n couldn't help but smile as she grabbed his firm hand. he led the two onto the dance floor, and they began swaying softly to the music.
"how are you feeling?" chan asked.
"i'm okay," y/n said with a smile. "what about you? you looked like you were getting destroyed racing my cousins," she joked.
chan gasped softly. "hey, i didn't want to be a jerk the first time i met your family!" he laughed. "you and i both know your cousins wouldn't stand a chance against me!"
the two of them laughed and a comfortable silence settled over them.
it was so easy to get lost in a picturesque moment like this, and chan almost did. looking into y/n's eyes, he felt like he was envisioning an entire future with the two of them.
"hey y/n," he interjected, "can i tell you something?" he thought he caught a sparkle in her eyes. she nodded. he took a deep breath.
"i know when we started all of this, it was a way for you to get your mom to stop nagging you..." he began.
"yeah, i can't believe that was months ago..." y/n reminisced fondly.
"it's crazy how time flies," he sighed. "but after all of this time together... after all of this time we've known each other... there's something i really want to tell you..."
the current song ended, and in the moment between the songs, chan took another deep breath. "y/n, i really li--"
"OH MY GODNESS! HE'S CHOKING! SOMEONE HELP!" a shrill scream cut through the air and chaos ensued. the two quickly parted to see a guest coughing wildly and pointing at his throat.
the two interns immediately sprinted into action, and chan performs the heimlich maneuver to dislodge the object.
thankfully, the food quickly came out. the man took a deep breath and turned around to thank chan. he let go of the man and quickly reassured it's not a big deal. chan released a sigh, also feeling completely exhausted from the sudden turn of events. y/n quickly assessed the man to ensure everything was okay.
chan excused himself from the chaos as the people around began to thank him for his quick action. he found himself staring at the night sky, wanting to beat himself up. but to be fair, it's not completely his fault he didn't get a chance to confess.
it's not every day you're trying to confess to the person you've been in love with forever and a random guest starts choking, forcing you to go into doctor mode. yeah, definitely not every day.
he was lost in thought for a bit until the soft clicks of heels were heard behind him. chan turned around to see y/n smiling at him, "what a night right?" she said as she stood next to him under the soft moonlight.
"tell me about it." he sighed, but he couldn't help chuckling at the turn of events. y/n laughed a little too, still flabbergasted as she thought back.
"what was it that you wanted to tell me chan?" she asked softly.
"oh uh, it was nothing important," he said nervously, "kinda forgot it back there with all the commotion."
"oh, no worries."
chan wasn't sure if he was being delusional, but why does y/n sound so disappointed?
