“Oh, sweetie, the mystery is part of the fun,” Dev replied teasingly, before shaking her head at him. “I can see you’re still standing. I figured if I waited until you could no longer walk I wouldn’t have a chance.”

“Oh, but you know what is even more fun? The chase. And you see...” He turns his gaze up at the ceiling, dreamily, and gives a light, airy sigh. “I have not gotten to be the one chased lately. So—” Vialgo looks down again at her again, winking. “Why don’t you indulge me a little bit? Charm me.”

He was leaning against the tavern’s bar, smile spreading nearly from ear to ear. The bottle in his hand held the last of the whiskey he had yet to drink, and Vialgo swirled it as he studied her face. A very pretty face, he noted.

“I don’t know about that. I’m still standing, aren’t I? Besides, shouldn’t you introduce yourself before dragging a poor man off to a bedroom? Shame on you, miss.”
