It has been some time since last I posted anything, but I am happy to say the reason for this was that I was busy preparing for one of my Cisco CCNP VPN exam. I am also happy to report that I did pass the exam after many hours of hard work and thus took a little break from posting and labbing things up.
Now That I am back I am doing a little revision on Unicast and Multicast. For Those who don’t know what this is don’t stress I will have a brief explanation below followed with some more technical posts later to come.
Unicast IP address are those IP addresses, which go one to one. Or in more simple explanation one device speaking to another typically used in routing and switching to update the devices with information of each other.
Multicast IP addresses are used when one devices need to communicate with many other. For an example like routing update information. If there is someone out there following my pasts you will notice in previous posts setups like GETVPN and EIGRP use Multicast to send updates to devices that belong to a Multicast group, hence one to many communication. the IP address ranges is typically 224.0.0.0 239.255.255.255
I have also attached a picture to explain traffic flows.
As always please leave a comment or a like! If you have any questions on this topic please let me know. More to come soon.
