Was he staring? The prince hadn't realized, his focus too caught up in observing the curve of her lips or the way the light shimmered in her eyes. Ariel had a way of enchanting him.

"Uh... staring? I wasn't--" He stumbled over his words, shaking his head. "Maybe you felt like a breeze or something."

Eric stared through the tempered glass. Pitiful rain spit at the windows, but rain wasn't his worry. He feared the treacherous waves and the fierce winds headed their way. But one glance at Ariel, listening to the nervous tone behind her smile, made him offer a smile of comfort.

"Thankfully, storms don't last forever." But he doubted this one would get better before it got worse. In a daring attempt at comfort, Eric laced his fingers with Ariel's and squeezed. "Winds change, but this one looks... /bad/." Unable to hide the truth, Eric sighed. "But I'll keep you safe. I promise. I've survived plenty of storms."

While she had expressed that she had no desire to visit Alexandria, and that she would prefer that the Hazelwood remain a somewhat closely guarded secret, her extension of invitation to the two outreach men had been genuine. Protecting the reactor was important, but not closing the doors on people who may need its shelter temporarily was more important.

The thick concrete and reinforced glass made for an eerie experience of being able to see the rain sheet violently down outside but not hear it at all. Even the thunder that followed cracks of lightening out the window was only a quiet purr occasionally.

His announcement earned a smile, scrabble tiles meticulously collected to begin another game after winning. Again.

"Stay away from Monopoly, it might put you over the edge." She answered, the tiles dumped in the box and shaken for good measure. "That would make for an interesting obituary, though. Hang-Man is a nightmare with physicists, for reference."

Eric hated to wake her. Watching her sleep was oddly comforting. It showed how comfortable she was around him and it made his chest expand with an odd sense of pride and love. When she did wake up, he couldn’t help deflating just a little bit. 

"Don't apologize, sayang." Eric reached out taking her hand in his. "You must be tired. All this travelling tires me out too, and the ship rocking doesn't help." He feigned a playful yawn with an added dramatic stretch before glancing at her from the corner of his eye. "If you want to sleep, I can walk you to your room and you can rest before we make port."

i love in the musical when ursula uses the voices against ariel in like the first 5 minutes of eric and ariel being together. like they’re dancing and having fun and he’s 100% already falling in love with this silent girl because she’s so OUTSPOKEN without speaking. 

and just the playfulness where he’s teasing her through dance and she’s teasing him, and then she’s soft and so in love with dancing and not even him and he knows they’ve got something in common. and more so, he wants to protect her. and just when she’s nuzzled into him when they dance and he wrapps his arm tighter around her because he wants to protect this girl who somehow got hurt and showed up on his shore. like. ugh. i love

Could it have been a nightmare? Had the past three days been nothing more than a dream bestowed by the battering sea that drowned him? When he woke up again on the beach, he considered it for longer than he wanted to admit. Aching, he cradled his head wishing for some sort of sign that it wasn’t a nightmare. That his true love didn’t just live in his dreams.

A glint of light caught his eyes and Eric looked up. She came from the water, glistening, glittering, and Eric’s mouth fell open. There she was! Perfectly framed by the rising sun. She was almost too much to behold as he realized it was no nightmare. Forgetting his aching head, and aching heart, Eric ran to meet her at the shoreline. Hands reach for her waist, picking her up, spinning her around while his eyes could never leave hers. He was terrified that if he’d blink, he’d wake up.

“Every time I reach for you, you slip through my fingers.” He set her down in the sand. “I don’t want to lose you again.”
