It hadn't been so much a choice as a necessity, for her to be the one to retake control. The Revolutionary Commander, given another chance after failure. Failure through death was still just that. But if anyone knew what it was to be a young nightblood destined to one day reign, it was Lexa, and they knew each other well.
"A war would be costly." Breaking a long moment of silent thought, her gaze turned back to him. Madi was strong, she would live. For now. Instead, her full attention went to him and to the issue at hand. Costly and not guaranteed a victory, not here. This was foreign land, and they had no advantage other than experience.

"The azgeda spy." Previous laylines of allegiance no longer pertained. Once, she would have executed her, and it would have been expected and accepted by all, even her own clan; a job hazard. Now, from what she had gleaned while overseeing Madi, the spy knew well enough that there was one side and only one. The rest, was-- not relevant at the moment. "Bring her to me."
