making friends with first years. muggle references that no one really understands. seven years worth of complaining about not being able to play video games at hogwarts -- your newest fixation is your gameboy you had to leave at home. fingers unable to keep still. saying i love you easily, because you were taught not to hold back, not ever. the feeling of the wind in your hair. potted plants. being uncomfortable with the idea that some people may not like you. doing your best to make everyone around you smile. conversations filled with laughter. being in no less than three clubs at every year.
patricia stimpson & helen dawlish → it’s an odd matching of friends, you know that, but then again you’ve also never really cared about that. you’ve always made friends easily, so it had been you that had latched onto the other two individually, before merging the trio together. they’re people who make you smile, who listen to you ramble on about muggle things, regardless if they truly understand. you’re each others’ support systems and if you take one away, you might all just collapse.
riley frazer → trying to imagine a world without them is strange -- you’d been together since the end of the third year, and everyone knows it. it’s always the two of you, riley & benji falling off the tongues of all your classmates. you know it’s silly, maybe naive in your childish wonder, to think that they’re it for you, but it’s the truth. the stability in riley is one of your favourite things about them and you never really want to ever let that go. people are still surprised sometimes that the two of you had made it this far, but you never doubted it for a second. they’re your favourite person. they’re your person, how could you ever give them up for anything?
spencer whiddon → before you knew about magic, the wizarding world, flying things and unicorns and ghosts, you had known spencer from back home. it’s pure coincidence, of course, because you couldn’t have even fathomed the idea that spencer was from a wizarding family. you’d excitedly bounded up to them when you recognised them on that first day at hogwarts, but it had felt awkward, like a friendship that had gotten disconnected years ago. after a while, you had stopped trying so hard to force this friendship the way it had been so effortless when you were little, but that doesn’t mean it sits right with you.
