Sam feels like he’s been caught red-handed — because he has — but his instinct is to turn around immediately and raise his gun at who startled him. There’s little he can do to deny the fact that that is indeed a dead body. He admits to have been careless especially when it came to luring the creature that had been following him since he had left the diner. There hadn’t been any time to pick a better place nor to make the body disappear, so there they were. There is blood on Sam’s jacket and shirt. He knows very well how this looks like, but there’s nothing he can do but to state the obvious. “Yes it is and there is a story behind all this, but trust me, you don’t want to know.
