@marcusflintx ; follow up to this owl
Katie crumpled the note up as his owl flew out the window, chucking the balled up piece of paper at the wall. Sighing, she picked it up from where it had fallen and tossed it into her fireplace instead, letting the flames eat the parchment.
Dousing the fire with a quick spell, she wondered for a moment if she should change into something more presentable than her lazing-around outfit of leggings and a Harpies hoody, but she was comfortable and they were just going to fight anyway, no point in looking nice. She did take a moment to run a brush through her hair, and then she tugged on trainers and she was out the door, apparating to his doorstep.
She hesitated, shifting her weight back and forth for a moment, chewing on her bottom lip. She knew his home well, but somehow the familiarity wasn’t always a comfort. Sometimes she still got an odd, unsettled feeling in the pit of her stomach, like she didn’t belong here. Of course I don’t belong here, she thought bitterly, raising her hand and knocking on the door.
Lepus
Lepus: My muse is put into an embarrassing situation.
Katie shoved halfheartedly against Marcus’s chest, breaking their kiss. Pulling away, she turned to leave, but he grabbed her by the wrist, dragging her back and pulling her to his chest again, claiming her lips in another kiss before she was able to protest. She pulled back again, breathing heavily and frowned at him. “Marcus, stop. Angelina and Alicia think I've gone to the loo and they will come looking for me.” They had never talked about why Katie’s best friends didn’t know about their...arrangement, but he knew that it was important to her that they didn’t know. She let him kiss her one more time, the club’s music pounding in her ears and her veins, and then she pulled away for good, leaving him behind in the dimly lit hallway to the loos.
When she got to the end of the hallway and turned towards the dance floor, though, Alicia was waiting for her, eyes alight with glee, cheeks flushed. “Who was that??? Was it your mystery man??” She sounded thrilled, peering around the corner into the hallway. Katie whipped her head around, relief flooding her as she noticed that Marcus had ducked into the men’s room.
She could feel herself blushing from head to toe, and she grabbed Alicia by the arm to drag her away, though it was harder than it looked. “Come on, Lisha, just drop it,” she said through gritted teeth, willing herself to stop blushing as she tugged her friend through the crowd on the dance floor. “Oooh, his cologne smells good,” Alicia said with a shit-eating grin, plopping down at the table where Angelina was watching their drinks and pulling Katie down next to her. “I found our widdle baby Katiekins here in middle of a liplock with mystery man,” Alicia said, ruffling Katie’s hair affectionately.
The blushing was back in full force as Angelina stared her down, and Katie hid her face in her hands, wishing the floor of the club would open up and swallow her whole.
Phoenix
Phoenix: My muse dreams of a past/current relationship.
Golden sunlight filtered through the windows, and Katie turned her face away from it, wanting to stay asleep. She nestled deeper into the covers, wrapping herself around Marcus’s warm body, her nose pressed against one strong shoulder. He wrapped his arms around her in his sleep, squeezing slightly, and she sighed contentedly.
Katie woke with a start, alone in her bed, the morning outside rainy and grey. Of course it was a dream, she thought ruefully, flushed with embarrassment even though no one was around. She pressed her hands against her eyelids, willing herself to stop hoping for something real with someone who didn’t want a relationship, or maybe just willing herself to go back to sleep. She didn’t have to be at practice for another two hours, but lying in bed with her eyes squeezed shut was just allowing herself to wallow in Marcus issues, so she slipped out of bed and went to start the kettle.

Katie threw her head back, laughing so hard that she had to stop to swipe tears from her eyes, smudging her mascara a bit. Her new teammates had kept her in stitches all night, and one of the beaters was sleeping with a bartender - “No, the fangs aren’t real,” she’d said with a smirk, “but he gets to take them home.” - so champagne hadn’t been in short supply. She couldn’t wipe the grin off of her face - the thought of being a professional quidditch player, especially for Holyhead, had her on cloud nine.
Angelina & Alicia had stopped by to congratulate her and have a drink, but Katie thought Angelina was still a bit sore that her best friend hadn’t tried out for the same team and was now one of her rivals. They’d left early - Alicia had to work in the morning and Angie had slipped away along with her. That was really the only thing that had been able to dampen her spirits, and it was momentary. She knew they’d all be back to normal soon enough.
Downing the last of her drink, Katie set the glass down on their table and pushed herself up out of the plush booth she was squeezed into with half the team, giggling as she climbed over one of the chasers and excusing herself to go to the loo. A few of the girls had made their way onto the dance floor, and they snagged her on her way back to the booth, pulling her into the press of bodies moving under the flashing lights.
She joined them happily, reveling in the way she was feeling - the champagne and the music coursing through her veins, compounding with her riotous joy and leaving her almost light-headed. She tossed her hair over her shoulders, grinning at her teammates, and turned to go back to their booth. As suddenly as she had stepped away from them, she stopped, feeling someone’s eyes on her - the gaze was strong enough that she felt heat run down her spine, enough to freeze her in place. She turned again, slowly, searching for whoever it was in the crowd as if in a daze.
