[ star slade. cis-female. she/her. veil-bound. ] ✦ in the dying light of forks, there’s always someone new moving beneath the clouds. this time, it’s AURORA "RORY" PARKER, the TWENTY-FOUR year old LOCAL. they say they’ve been here for FIVEYEARS, but the story shifts depending on who you ask. either way, they’ve been seen haunting MOSS & MOON CAFE, after their shift as an INNKEEPER at THE FOXGLOVE INN. they’re part of the GRAYPINE WOLF PACK, and most people say they’re like A COLLECTION OF GLASS BLOWN FIGURINES ON THE WINDOWSILL, THE LINGERING SCENT OF ANA ABIYEDH CORAL, PRISTINELY WHITE AND PERFECTLY FOLDED NAPKINS, FRESH BAKED COOKIES WITH TOO MANY CHOCOLATE CHIPS. as for where they stand on the town’s quiet war? they feel UNPREPARED AND UNEASY BUT ACCEPTING OF HER ROLE IN PROTECTING THE PEOPLE SHE CARES ABOUT MOST. at the end of the day, you’ll catch them humming CLUELESS BY BEACH BUNNY, but they’ll just tell you: “TO BE SURE, I AM A FOREST, AND A NIGHT OF DARK TREES: BUT HE WHO IS NOT AFRAID OF MY DARKNESS, WILL FIND BANKS FULL OF ROSES UNDER MY CYPRESSES.“

OVERVIEW
rory was born in forks, but she wasn't raised there. at the age of seven, both of her parents died suddenly. because she was so young at the time, nobody told her exactly what had happened. as she got older, she had grown to believe it was a tragic car accident on the rain slicked interstate. adults always behaved strangely when she asked questions as a child, so after a while, she learned to stop asking about her parents' deaths. her new caretakers much preferred talking about their lives.
after being orphaned, rory was immediately taken in by her mother's best friend and her husband. they had two children already, who rory grew up seeing as her siblings. her adoptive mother was very protective of rory, almost more so than her own children. it confused her at first, but then, she figured it made sense to worry over a child who experienced such trauma at a young age.
although her new family was from forks as well, they relocated shortly after taking in rory, and she ended up spending the remainder of her childhood and all of her teen years in seattle. she still had extended family back in forks, but they would always come visit her. they seemed to all agree that it was better this way, so rory wouldn't have to deal with painful memories back in forks. but she missed her home and, if anyone had bothered to ask how she felt, she would have wanted to go back.
the universe, it turned out, worked in mysterious ways. she was nineteen when she shifted for the first time, which acted as a catalyst for her return back to forks. her adoptive mother, while not a shifter herself, knew well what was happening. she also knew what her mother had been, a former member of the graypine pack. she knew she wasn't equipped to help rory with her transformation, and had in fact only been hoping that the distance might keep her from ever shifting at all.
rory returned to forks, joined the pack, and started working alongside her aunt at the family business: the foxglove inn. the inn had been in their family for generations, and just like the wolf genes that tied her to the pack, she had something else that immediately grounded her back in her old life. it was amazing how seamlessly she adjusted to life back in forks
POSSIBLE CONNECTIONS
a childhood friend/family friend: someone she maybe lived next to growing up, or they went to school together briefly. maybe their parents were friends. they always wondered what happened to rory after her parents died.
someone who frequents the inn just for the food/tea. i promiseeeeee it's worth it 😛 they have a cook (who slays) but rory does a lot of baking for the guests to get free snacks in the lobby
pack mentor: someone who immediately took rory under their wing when she came back, made her feel welcome, maybe they were familiar with her parents
love/hate relationship: a vampire she likes to annoy but also kind of just...likes them. lowkey enjoys their company but has to be a brat about it bc we're mortal enemies you stink!!!
