IT WORKS FROM THE INSIDE.“

OVERVIEW
the adler family moved to nebraska while whitmer's mother was pregnant, on the run from something. she never did have any other children after, or before, whitmer, and he does blame being an only child for a lot of his deficiencies. not because there's anything inherently wrong with being an only child, but because it meant all of his parents' attention was focused squarely on him.
when it came to his mother, this wasn't a terrible thing. she was a bit overbearing, but given the man she had married, it was inevitable. she babied him a bit, though it didn't make him soft. he had his father's tough love to act as a counter balance. nothing whit did was ever enough. even when he hit the bullseye dead center, his father would just command he do it twenty more times, just as well.
maybe he's thankful for it. after all, even with darts at the bar, whitmer can hit the bullseye every single time. not that he does, though. that's just a little bit too suspicious. people don't expect much from the local bartender. never went to college properly, couldn't afford it, or couldn't justify it to his parents. unfortunately, financial decisions always came down to whether his father approved or not. and he didn't want whitmer getting distracted by anything other than The Cause.
which was, of course, ridding the world of monsters. it sounds like a heroic mission, like something only a superhero would embark on. but whitmer's father wasn't altogether altruistic, he was more...vengeful. bloodthirsty. whit doesn't have that same drive to do what he does.
still, he got a job at the tavern because it means getting to know the locals. it means blending in with the wallpaper while people get sloppy and drunk and start oversharing. so, yeah, he's pretty good at "gathering intel" or whatever. but when it comes to acting on his suspicions? he's still working up the courage.
they moved to forks when he was still young, twelve years old, on a hunch. one that, he's learned throughout his life, may not have been utter nonsense, but as he's gotten older, he can't help but wonder...what kind of a man moves his family to a town he's convinced has vampires?

well ofc the obvious one is regulars at cricket's <3 but whitmer is really good with faces, he'd remember someone who's only come in a handful of times. whether he's their favorite or most hated bartenders, that's up to u... he's good at being friendly on the clock, but he doesn't go out of his way to chat people up. he's more of a listener yk.
someone who got waaaaay too loaded and he had to help them home after a shift. sadly he is a Good Person so he's not gonna let ppl get hit by a car in the street pero also. if he accidentally over-served someone he feels GUILTY!!!
high school sweetheart, before things got too heavy. his childhood and especially his teenage years were not exactly light and fun but maybe they were, sometimes, with this person. break up was probably his fault, whether he initiated it or not. this would be a girlie, his family is.......sus so he didn't rly kiss a boy until later on
