“ the thought of being in love is blinding. ” -- Orion to vivienne !
@throatkissed [ bc i love u ]
IT’S AMAZING HOW QUICKLY SKYHOLD’S GARDENS EMPTY ON a chilly evening around suppertime. there’s no silly gaggle of chantry sisters, or endless parading of visitors, or even the alchemists scurrying to and fro to tend to the prophet’s laurel and elfroot that twists up the columns. vivienne settles back against the bench she’s chosen at the edge of the gazebo and fixes orion with a quirked eyebrow and the faintest flicker of a smile.
it’s the little things, the ones that show she genuinely enjoys the elf’s company — even if she’s convinced that understanding orion (really, truly understanding her!) is something she’ll never quite accomplish. vivienne refuses to be discouraged. one never wins by giving up.
“let me be perfectly candid with you, my dear.” one hand drapes idly over the stone back of her bench; the other beckons vaguely in orion’s direction. “if you’re looking for advice, or simply for conversation, i am more than happy to oblige. i always enjoy our talks. but i must warn you that my opinions when it comes to love can be — somewhat austere, compared to others.” for those who value survival, sentimentality is not an option. she has done her best to live by that.
and she has failed on more than one occasion. (like, for instance, this one.)
“love is — difficult. dangerous. especially to people like us.” independent, self-sufficient, with walls upon walls until it’s a veritable labyrinth to get to the heart. vivienne grimaces ever so slightly and crosses one leg over the other. “i don’t believe in love at first sight. infatuation and fascination, perhaps, but not love. it took me six years to fall in love with bastien. not because i didn’t like him, or because he wasn’t attractive, or because he was unkind.”
she shrugs, ignores the tug at her heartstrings. (maker, she misses him so much.)
“at first it was because i didn’t respect him. after that, because i didn’t trust him. both are necessary for a love that can come anywhere close to deserving of you, darling. never forget that. and afterwards — i don’t know. i suppose — ” (i was afraid, i was afraid, i was so very, very afraid) “ — it just took me a little longer to accept the idea than most.”
vivienne sighs, fixes orion with a rueful sort of smile. “there’s no shame in being blinded by the thought. people may tell you that love isn’t a weakness. they’re wrong; it most certainly is. letting someone that close to you, becoming so intimate with them, investing in them, sharing hopes and dreams and fears with them — it makes you vulnerable. but it can also make you feel wonderful. it is blinding, which makes it so incredibly easy to get wrong.”
now she’s leaning forwards, doing her best to remember: has she seen orion with anyone lately? her companion is remarkably attractive and boasts ten times that in talent. so how is it that orion is here with her in the gardens, spending this marvel of an evening virtually alone?
vivienne’s eyes light up, and the wistfulness lingering in the air around her begins to fade. “is there someone who’s had the privilege of blinding you lately, my dear?” her half-smile returns, and she gives orion a teasing once-over. “i could give better advice if i had more specifics, you know.”

“It’s open!” he calls out upon hearing a knock at the door. The sound and smell of onion sizzling on the stove top fills his small apartment as he fusses about the kitchen. Hearing the front door open and shut, he turns to look over his shoulder to watch Alexis walk into the kitchen. “H--hey, Ally. Did you bring the w--wine?” There it is, the boyish grin that has barely been on his face since he lost her, as he gestures toward the two wine glasses he had already prepared.
❛ catch any bad guys today ? ❜ ( Kara )
“Yeah, a couple-- not the guys we’re really lookin’ for, but it’s a start.” The fewer people on the streets that believe it’s just okay to take someone’s life as a solution to their problems the better, as far as Hank is concerned. As he nears towards her and the kitchen, his tone changes to one less business and more pleasure. “Just like whatever you’re cookin’ in there is a real good start to gettin’ me wrapped right around your finger.”
