you know it’s funny bc im here everyday talking about film, im over there irl studying it and beginning my career like cool cool cool and then tomorrow we’re going to have a brazilian movie in competition in cannes, last year we had movies winning stuff at sundance and venice v v v cool like all good and fun and growing again etc but like..... brazilian cinema literally just died/got cancelled two days ago when a right-wing, corporate media backed, barely disguised coup d’fucking état took the power away from a democratically elected administration and immediately extinguished the ministry of culture, which deadass means independent and semi-independent filmmaking is over no lies no exaggeration and we’re back to an even more market-oriented, heavily exclusive business model organised around 3 or 4 major production companies - 2/3 of which make money mostly from advertisement, and the last one is a branch of by far the biggest media empire in the country (which also *happens* to be a major player in the impeachment process). so that’s fun that i keep talking about it as if my friends and i are going to be able to find work in an industry that is about to collapse :)

#not to mention the merging of the ministry for women racial equality and human rights with our equivalent of the justice dept #and this institutional monstrosity is ofc going to be lead by a guy who notoriously likes to #beat the shit out of public school students drug addicts homeless ppl... like literally a human rights champion #:) lmao #very cool and interesting
