Context: He needed to have the ice pack because of an infection on the burns he got while filming the music video for famous last words. Seems like he decided not look into it at first which ended in a staph imfection that caused a abscess in his face, it was close to start spreading to his brain when he finally went to an hospital.
So he had to use an ice pack in his face to help treating it, he also ended up with nerve damage.
