Deadpool Opinions (not an invitation for drive-by comments from people I don’t know and don’t give a shit about)
Deadpool 2 (which I still haven’t seen yet and don’t desire spoilers of) causing a revival of Deadpool/Cable is A++ quality content.
Thank you, Ryan Reynolds. You’re doing Future Jesus’ work.
That said, I feel like the writers of the first movie shaved off a lot of Deadpool’s sharp edges the same way Deadpool comic writers have done for the past ~10 years and it really takes away from the emotional depth of their relationship as Fucked Up Saviour Who Can’t Save Anything / Fucked Up Victim Who Doesn’t Want To Be Saved
But would the first movie even have been made if Deadpool was still a stalker of B-list X-Men who locked his blind, unwilling landlord/hostage in the attic surrounded by glass shards because he was pissed off?
Deadpool has gone from being an example of How Hypermasculine Anti-Heroes Are Fucked Up to having his bad qualities glorified to maybe undermining masculine ideals again and again depending on the writer. But I stopped reading in around 2008 when it was crap and I’m not super interested in picking it up again.
I just want new fans to read the good, complex Deadpool, not the crap.
