JULIA: Why aren’t you answering, is everything alright? Your brother called. 

ASH: He what?

JULIA: Please, Ash, I don’t know what is going on between the two of you but you know it’s best to keep him peaceful. 

ASH: It’s not my job to appease him.

ASH: Mom. 

JULIA: Sorry sweetheart, I’m only worried. He sounded incredibly upset.

JULIA: He asked me to speak with you. 

ASH: Of course he did. 

JULIA: It’s only an apology. It’s easier to just... it’s easier to just obey them, you know that. Especially when he is in one of his moods like this. 

ASH: Honestly Mom, for fucks sake, I didn’t do anything to him. He’s the psycho ruining lives. 

JULIA: What do you mean?

ASH: Nothing. Never mind.

ASH: Is this all you needed?

JULIA: Your brother’s threats are never empty and I’m very glad he called me and not your Father. Master would not like to hearing the two of you are fighting again. 

ASH: As if he’d care.

JULIA: He cares about our Legacy there. A disruption won’t likely be tolerated and I do fear with the slightest pressure Hunter might---

JULIA: He made it very clear he wants an apology.

“I need to reschedule.”

“It says here this would be the second time you’ve rescheduled this appointment, if there is a commitment issue we do have counseling available for—“

“No it’s... it’s just my schedule.”

“Are you certain about that because—“

“Yes, I am. Please. Reschedule it. “

“Alright. Your procedure for a third degree brand removal has been pushed back to July 9th. Though you should note Ms Clarington, if there is another rescheduling for this type of procedure we will require a counseling session before we continue.”

“That’s fine. It won’t happened again. The 9th. Thank you, Sir.”

{ - he still kept the number even though they never exchanged a single word during the years he was out of the country. but now he thought it was time to finally try to get a hold of her again; and he hesitantly brings the phone up to his ear, listens anxiously to the beeping noise that tells him that the call is connecting until he hears someone pick up, until he hears seolhyun’s voice asking who this is. - }

“uh, hey! it’s me, baekhyun?”

{ - his voice is somewhat cheerful, he really tries not to let the nervousness slip through too much. - }

“do you still remember me?”

{ - it would be a good moment to make a pause, to take a deep breath, but he starts rambling when he’s nervous. - }

“i’m back from china. i know i was away for a suuuper long time and you probably don’t even know who i am anymore. but we used to play together when we were little? with your cousin jongin? and, yeah, uhm, i just wanted to tell you, sorry to bother, uhm—”

Of course, waking up screaming is always made better when he's in Bennett's bed with coffee, food, and a nice little note waiting for him, but that didn't stop dread from settling into the pit of Jaidon's stomach anyway, remnants of his dreams clinging to his senses -- the very dreams that had been kept at bay all night by the Safety of Bennett's arms. At least he slept, right? At least he slept, and now hours later, with all day to worry about it, he's finally calling the other boy as he had requested in the note he left.
