"Nothing lasts forever."
"I know!"
It's an outburst. A painful one at that. The princess presses trembling fingers to her lips, trying to bite back the tears, but against her attempts, a few roll down her cheeks. No, if there's anyone that understands that, it's her.
She still remembers those day when she had been younger, when the halls of the palace had been filled with the sound of a child's laughter. Tiny, childish fingers that had sunk in the gown's soft skirts, lifting them an inch or two of the ground so she could run better, the soft scuffle as she ducked behind a wall.
Summers spent in that dreadful heat that she missed so much now. But it was all darkened by that ever present realization that nothing in her family was ever truly permanent. Her brother, her mother, her father's death, and she stuck in a sleep that had left such a scar on her, had imprinted itself like a brand on her soul and sank its teeth into her like some sort of savage beast. Those memories still lingered. The nightmares. The waking up late at night, shaking. Yes, she still remembered it all, and she thought she would until the day she died.
But still, she's on the verge of tears, her fingers clenching tightly together in a fist. "But do you have to leave? M-" She chokes on the word, head turning down slightly, a tear dripping off her cheek. "Mother, please. Please stay. Don't leave me. Not again."
