his what now?
both skeletons looked mildly taken aback by lola’s sudden appearance, though for different reasons. while papyrus didn’t feel quite ready to come out about that blooming “friendship” with the bunny he was seeing, sans hadn’t expected lola to fill in those blanks for him as fast as she did.
a rush of blue suddenly rose to his cheekbones and the spectral light in his eyesockets flickered out of existence in the bane of the elder skeleton’s shock. his brother, on the other hand, blushed a sunset red. and if lola had picked up on anything about skeletons along the way, it was safe to assume orange was the colour of the younger’s soul.
❝ uhhh, y-yeah. that. ❞
for all his scientific background and vice-like hold on dispassion, sans just felt as though the recipe to decorum flew out the window as soon as the word girlfriend registered. his brother, on the other hand, flinched. hoping sans’ girlfriend didn’t pick up on anything that was said.
lola having her two cents to chip in with proved both she very much did, in fact, overhear. not her fault the two didn’t exactly take subtlety into account when in their own home.
❝ YOUR... GIRLFRIEND? ❞ papyrus wore the look of a skeleton who just found out humans were made of them. that flustered look was quick to turn into a frown of annoyance, though the dusted orange had yet to fade. ❝ SANS! YOU NEVER TOLD ME YOU HAVE A... GIRLFRIEND. ❞
oh boy.
❝ h-heh. ❞ rubbing the back of his skull, sans wish he’d known what to label them as before. ❝ it, uh, kinda just happened... recently. ❞ today. ❝ and yeah, i mean, we, uh, wouldn’t be together if that were not the case. ❞
❝ SIGH. ❞ papyrus was visibly quicker to recover from the shock, already flipping the page while sans still lingered on embarrassment. ❝ WELL, SINCE MY BROTHER HAS CLEARLY FAILED TO INTRODUCE US BEFORE. ALLOW ME, IT’S A PLEASURE TO FINALLY MEET YOU, LOLA. I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL ACCEPT YOU AS MY SISTER IN LAW. ❞
the younger skeleton towered over lola like a pole. it beggared belief how such a tiny skully sans simply flooded the girl with pictures of on occasion had turned into a skeleton of that height. even for human standards, papyrus was quite tall. he took after their creator in looks, but sans refrained from mentioning that.

❝ you mean the guy in the mirror? ❞ the skeleton propped an elbow on top of the bar counter that bunny girl was sat on, resting his head comfortably on a gloved palm. ❝ he’s a real copycat, i’ll tell ya that. almost sued him the other day for plagiarism, but, uh, he finger-gunned my way and told me i looked fresh outta the grave. so i gave ‘im a discount for, y’know, the creativity. ❞
now her question caught the skeleton a little off guard– while he could try to weasel his way out of it, there was no telling she would let him. girl looked as sharp as a steel trap.
❝ uhhh… exact words? ❞ oh boy. ❝ ah y’know, ‘side from being pretty, wonder what else that gal does for a living. ❞
sans wouldn’t be the least surprised if she whipped her ears to his face and walked off after that one. it was one of the cheesiest to ever sprout from the darkest recesses of his mind, but he couldn’t help it. the inner comedian was stronger than him by a mile.

Being a grandmother at 31 years old wasn’t something that Simmons had ever expected. Yet, here was Deke. Simmons did genuinely like Deke - he was smart, even if that wasn’t always immediately obvious, and lately she had begun to enjoy observing him to pick up on mannerisms he shared with Fitz and herself.
However, despite liking Deke, she did find him awfully confusing. There were still simply too many unknowns surrounding him. The thing was, Simmons wasn’t sure if she even wanted to know the answers to the many questions that bounced around her head. If time couldn’t be changed, did she really want to know what was coming?
"Deke...” She finally spoke up hesitantly. “Can I ask you something?”

“All I’m saying is that maybe if you didn’t want to have a cat’s liver next to your lunch, you should have followed basic lab hygiene rules and kept your lunch out of the lab! You can’t keep blaming me when you’re the one who didn’t do as you were told!”

Despite not having been back for very long, Simmons had begun to pick up on the chatter around the Playground. She was more-or-less up to date about what had happened since she’d been gone. A lot of things stood out to her - the spread of terrigen being something major - but right now what she was focusing on was Hunter.
She could relate to his struggles. Even now, she wanted to kill Ward herself. She understood what that kind of anger felt like. It didn’t sit right with her to leave Hunter with that.
“I heard about your mission.” She began, aiming for casual. “That you tried to kill him.”

There were a lot of things that Simmons was coming to hate after returning from Maveth. She hated her over-sensitivity to her senses, she hated the exhaustion that crept into every part of her body, and she hated how kind Fitz was, despite the fact that she didn’t deserve it. But what she hated the most, at the moment at least, was not being cleared for field missions.
Her anxiety had spiked, being left alone while everyone else was out there, potentially in danger. But then there was a knock at her door, and Simmons was reminded that she wasn’t the only one who had been left behind.
Simmons looked over at Bobbi with a tired smile. “I don’t know how you’ve coped being stuck here for the past few months.”
