it had become a habit for them to leave little surprises for each other in their lockers, something to show that they’ve been thinking about each other, but this was for a special occasion. It only seemed appropriate to see Baekhyun after practice just minutes before his official birthday, having already giving him a notice beforehand to keep his time free.

Seolhyun’s smile could be seen from behind the mask as she waited for him outside, but it wasn’t until they were on the bus when she wrapped her arms around him. In one of her hands was a scroll with a string bow tying it together nicely. A bracelet was also loosely wrapped around the scroll, and she placed it into his hands.

“You can read it now if you want.” Either way, she hadn’t let go of him and rested her head against his shoulder.

“To Baekkie with the prettiest hands,

     You’re just too good to be true~      Can’t take my eyes off of you~      You’d be like heaven to touch~      I wanna hold you so much~

Happy birthday!

This one might be a little rushed, but I thought being there when you read it might make it up for just sticking it in your locker.

Did you think you were just getting a letter? You gave me a necklace on mine (which I haven’t taken off either ♥), and I thought you would look good wearing a bracelet. Like I said, you have pretty hands, which I’m glad I can be holding, so I’m sure would suit your wrists just fine.

Anyway, you should enjoy your birthday, and I want to be right there with you when you do. ^.~ ♥

The bus ride didn’t leave much time for them to be sitting around when the streets were empty at night. When she noticed the buildings closer to their bus stop, she tapped his shoulder and leaned in close. “Do you want to go to your place or mine when we get off?”

at first, he thinks she just wants to make sure that he won’t leave earlier than her after practice so they can go home together like most times – even if the different stages of training are keeping them more apart now during the day, the fact that they live so close together always makes up for it. if they part ways in the end, not staying together at his or her place, they can at least spend a bit of time together while driving home. it’s nice.

but when seolhyun wraps her arms around him the moment they’re seated inside their bus home, when he sees the smile that’s hidden by her face mask that’s still visible in the twinkle of her eyes, he knows this is not just about going home together. and the little gift she hands over to him afterwards tells him what’s it really about.

“is it already—” he starts and shakes his arm gently to free the watch that’s around his wrist to check the time.

a lazy grin spreads across baekhyun’s lips immediately; it’s cute how over-punctual seolhyun seems with this, how she already gives him a gift even though it’s been like fifteen minutes into his birthday. “you’re cute,” he tells the girl with slight amusement in his voice before he returns his attention back to his gift. the bracelet looks nice, simple but also kind of cute and he likes wearing them – it’s a nice gift and before reading the scroll seolhyun’s given him as well, baekhyun puts the bracelet around his other wrist, the right one. he checks it out for a brief moment.

yeah, it looks really good.

leaning his head on top of hers, he carefully unrolls the scroll to read the letter she wrote him, a few chuckles escaping him as his eyes fly over the words. once he’s finished, baekhyun reads it a second time just because he likes the way it makes his heart skip when he can feel his girlfriend’s presence next to him while reading. “i won’t take it off, okay?,” he tells the girl, pressing a kiss on top of her head, “thank you. it’s a cute gift. and a cute letter.”

and the smile on his lips becomes a little bit wider at her question. baekhyun doesn’t answer right away but takes his time with putting the letter into his messenger bag, instead. “yours, of course.” he slowly slides out of the seat, reaching for seolhyun’s hand.

Seolhyun had to get to her own schedules when filming needed her on set for some hours. The rest of her time were unfortunately allocated with the rest of Luxe as the discussed  do for their mini-concert and how to prepare for it. It didn’t really leave a lot for her to do much on her own. However, in the downtime that she had in between her schedule, she had come across something days ago that she knew she wanted to try. The suggestion was brought up to the others, which was more or less accepted to try out when the time came. 

So when Valentine’s Day came around, Seolhyun quickly found her way around the building after sending a message to Baekhyun to find where he was. At their meeting point, she happily held out a cake box for him to accept. Except inside wasn’t a cake, but rather a pile of biscuits enough for him and the DE:CODE members. Another bag was given to him with more of the biscuits inside, and a small envelope attached to it with his name on it. “This one’s for you, that one’s for the others, leader-nim,” she explained with a small chuckle. With a few exchanged words and gestures, she went back to where her other members were. 

“Baekkie, 

This dessert is called Millionaire’s Shortbread, because you’re one in a million. ❤️ I saw a picture of this and wanted to make it for you. This was also kind of a group project with the members and I, so you can share it with your group too. ^^ Just because I don’t eat chocolate doesn’t mean you can’t get chocolate from me. ㅎ  For now, Happy Valentines Day and happy training!

To go the extra length, Seolhyun had kissed the paper with a lipstick contrasted enough to the paper to be able to be seen clearly.

when she writes him a message to meet up he’s instantly excited, a jittery sensation sitting in every part of his body at the thought of seeing her. why wouldn’t he be? seolhyun’s his girlfriend after all and moments between them in person are sparse, something that doesn’t happen too often and even less since he had to move out of his home and into the dorms. and it’s valentine’s day! it gets him hyped up even more because he knows he’ll get something and baekhyun’s a true glutton.

there’s no point in hiding his love for sweets.

so, he’s not surprised when seolhyun’s in front of her and holds out a box for him to take. instead a wide smile slips onto his lips as he looks at her, fond and full of affection, as he takes it. it sucks that they’re at the company and not in private – this probably being risky enough – because baekhyun just really wants to press a kiss to her cheeks as a thanks. he fights the urge, though. voices it out instead as he laughs and says, “thank you,” while his gaze falls down to whatever she made him. baekhyun’s curious. but he decides to check it out once seolhyun’s gone, wants to concentrate on the few minutes he’s getting with her.

when she gives him a second box, he is caught by surprise, though. “ah,” he wants to scratch his neck in embarrassment but both of his hands are occupied, “it feels weird to hear you say that.” it’s sweet of her to make some for everyone else. he’s happy that he can share those sweets with them ( would’ve done it anyway probably if he only had his own box. now, he won’t have to and the greedy part of him feels satisfied. ) he thanks her again and when she has to leave, some type of sadness settles in him, sitting down to take a look at what his girlfriend has gifted him – and his members – with. he opens the envelope first, reading what she’s written him and it makes him laugh softly, smile widely at the stains of lipstick on the paper, the print of her lips. cute. then, he opens the cake box that’s for him, curiously eyeing the biscuits she made for him before taking a bite.

baekhyun hums in delight;

taking out his phone as he still chews, as he shoves the rest of it into his already full mouth.

Johnny usually got sponsored gifts from his modeling gigs, but he didn’t exactly feel like giving Baekhyun hyung something he’d feel like was a cast-off from a shoot. Johnny had purposely saved some money to get the hoodie he liked from one of the shoots he had done back then. He felt that it was a perfect fit for Baekhyun hyung too. Johnny prepares that, along with Baekhyun hyung’s birthday lunch of seaweed soup, kimbap, and his attempt at mandu. He leaves everything with Aunt Sunhee before he heads out to take the long trip to school. 

Dear Baekhyun hyung, 

Happy birthday! We keep missing each other, and I hope you enjoy your birthday lunch. I hope I didn’t butcher the mandu too much. The hoodie was something I thought you’d love wearing. See you at Seocho when I do, hyung.

“johnny made something to eat for you,” his mother tells him after letting him go off her tight embrace – this should more be called a bear hug because for a few seconds baekhyun wasn’t able to breathe properly. when did his mother get this strong? – after giving him her birthday greetings, “isn’t that sweet of him?” and baekhyun slides into his seat, his mother placing the dishes in front of him instead of the usual birthday breakfast that she makes for him every year.

somehow, this makes him feel all warm inside ;

guilty as well, though. because he can’t cook, can’t do something similar for johnny on his birthday and because they’ve hardly been seeing each other lately. baekhyun doesn’t even know what’s going on in his life and that’s upsetting. his own fault. he’s about to pick up the spoon when his mother places something else in front of him, sliding it across the counter. “there’s a gift from him too,” she tells him with a smile before stealing one of the mandu johnny made away. baekhyun doesn’t even care about it for once, too focused on unfolding the piece of clothing he got. a hoodie, looks big too. baekhyun smiles, lips curling up into something like a grin. “it looks so cool.” he shows it her mother.

“the color will look good on you.”

baekhyun tests it out immediately, pulling off the plain hoodie he put on only a short while ago and switches it for the one johnny got from him. it does look good on him, baekhyun smiles even wider as his mother whines at him about having to wash the sweater first. he doesn’t care about that, though, only fishes his phone out of his sweats, typing a message to johnny immediately.

there’s no way he’s not going to thank him personally. with a hug and a smile and, maybe, some time to catch up.

bright and early, seonho is awake and sending a text to baekhyun ( happy birthday to the greatest hyung ever~~ the second birthday i get to celebrate with you!! ) before getting ready to leave for training. the moment he see’s baekhyun though the teen is latching onto him in a tight hug, the olders name echoing through the halls. he’s already so energetic and it’s all because of who’s birthday it is. “hyung!! happy birthday!!! oh oh oh!! i got you this–well actually i made it–” he releases the hug to hand over the gift bag he had been holding. in the gift bag is a mini stuffed lion and a small cake box with a cupcake resting inside. the cupcake has baekhyuns name on it and a small candle in the middle. he forgot to bring a lighter or anythin but hey the thought counts? “since i have so many lions, and you’re my most precious baekhyunnie hyung, i thought it was time for you to officially join the pride! i love you, hyung~. i really hope i can make today a super happy special birthday!“

it’s pretty much a normal thing – seonho latching onto him like a koala or something like that – something that happens on a daily basis, all the time. but when seonho does it this time, baekhyun knows immediately why. that it’s because of more than a simple greeting or need for affection and closeness ;

even if seonho wouldn’t have sent him a text message only a while ago, he would’ve known.

and it makes baekhyun smile, lips curling upwards into a bright expression as he turns in the younger’s hold to take a look at him. “thank you so much—” he starts to speak up but the wave of words coming from seonho stop him, his actions. the gift bag already in his hands as baekhyun is unsure whether to be confused or simply happy about this but seonho is much like him on birthdays. with the way he jumps on people and bounces off the walls so he gets it.

still smiling, baekhyun takes a peek inside the bag. “oh,” he makes a noise, then laughs as he takes out the small lion. so cute. turns it around in his hold to take a proper look at it. “i really am part of the family now, huh?” he’s happy. this makes him happy, the cupcake that’s in there as well. ( baekhyun feels like he’ll never be able to eat it but watch him in fifteen minutes, eating away. ) “you’re so cute, seonnie,” he tells the younger, straps of the bag and the plush still in his fingers, “thank you so much.” pulling seonho in, he hugs him tight.

not that baekhyun cares much about his birthday anymore, whether it’s good or bad, but it seems like it’s going to be a really good one this year.

{ It arrives days after Christmas, but she doesn’t think it would matter to him; Seolhyun knows that the content inside matters anyway. It’s a bit of a roundabout way, a small package waiting for Baekhyun when he arrives back home. The sender comes from an address in Bucheon, although she doesn’t know if Baekhyun remembers her mother’s name to recognize it. The hat’s inside, and the card included reads “나의 백빛, Sorry I can give this to you in person. I saw this and had to order it for you, though. Merry Christmas. ♥ Love, SH” }

when he gets home fromm a day full of practice, he finds the package sitting on his bed. just waiting there for him and, at first, baekhyun’s confused – he didn’t order anything, did he? not that he can remember. he also can’t remember someone telling him that they’re going to send him something, the most he usually gets are, like, postcards. baekhyun gets close and checks it out, wondering if it’s seriously for him ;

and it is. huh.

he checks the adress the package came from and it only takes him a second to recognize it. seolhyun’s parents place. a smile easily spreads across his lips, wide and happy because of course.

ripping the package open without a second of hesitation, baekhyun spots his gift and picks it up, eyes twinkling as he turns the snapback around in his hands. eyes it from every angle in awe, “awesome,” before putting it on his head. baekhyun takes his phone to look at himself through the front camera and it looks great. he grins. there’s still the card, though, and baekhyun picks that one up as well to read through it, expression growing soft immediately. it would’ve been great if he could just send seolhyun the gifts he got for her too but that’s not as simple with living in the dorms, swarmed with fans all the time. ( he’ll figure something out. )

the card is placed on his bedsheets and baekhyun has his phone back in his hands, thinking that a selfie for his girlfriend to show her that he likes her gift would be appropriate. “wait, no —” he grins ; he’ll call her, instead.

With what she started last year, she couldn’t let it die out now. For as long as her and Baekhyun were together, she decided to make it a little bit of a tradition. Not everywhere in the company had CCTVs, especially at the stairs, so she made a time to meet up to be seen ‘casually’ walking by each other. The two boxes of pepero nudes were wrapped in gift paper to hide what they were, and a little card was taped on the outside of it with nothing but a “open when you’re alone.” She placed it quickly in his bag, took a quick glance around, and stroked his face affectionately with a smile as she continued up the stairs.

“Baekkie, I thought about sending the package to your doorstep, but I wanted to write this to you personally. Happy pepero day~~. ♡ Enjoy your nudes and many more to come. ㅎㅎㅎㅎㅎ ^^ -Seollie”

every time he gets to see her is special, every moment is cherished no matter how short it is -- being able to eat lunch together. maybe, dinner in the cafeteria too. even just walking past each other in the hallway or catching a glimpse of her turning a corner on her way to luxe’s practice room, when she’s hurrying around for schedules. and when she asks him to walk past a certain set of stairs at a certain time of the day, baekhyun’s there of course;

excited. looking forward to see her.

and even though, it’s just them passing each other, baekhyun’s happy. it’s a brief moment but he’s alright with it. especially, when he notices how she slips something into his bag, when she touches him fleetingly and the smile on his lips doesn’t go away as his hands search around in his training bag, fishing the wrapped gift out of it. there’s no need to open it, he knows what’s in there. he knows what day it is. so, he puts it back into his bag for later and pulls his phone out of his sweats, typing a message to her quickly.

Johnny had purposely woken up early on a Sunday with a particular mission. He rarely gets to see Baekhyun hyung, even if they live in the same house on weekends. It’s a special day for his host brother, and Johnny wants to cheer him up (even if it’s just a little bit). He hopes he pulls this off before the older boy wakes up. 

He had spent the entire week learning how to make tteokbokki the way Baekhyun hyung likes it. It’s not a very fancy dish, but he remembers his host brother being fond of this particular street food. He then packs it in a nice lunch box, along with pajeon, mandu, and kimchi. He puts the rice and the obligatory seaweed soup in separate containers. He then leaves the kitchen to take a shower and get ready to for training, leaving the whole lunchbox to cool. 

Before Johnny leaves for training he attaches a note to the lunchbox.  

Dearest Baekhyunnie hyung,

Happy birthday! I wasn’t sure what to get you so I opted to prepare you a lunchbox instead. I tried cooking everything to the best of my abilities. Please enjoy it! ^^;;

the smell of freshly cooked food is still stuck in the apartment when baekhyun gets up in the morning, when he leaves his room to go to the bathroom and freshen up before getting ready to leave for practice. it smells good but still manages to make his stomach churn not only because he just got out of bed but for other reasons as well -- he wishes that his appetite would finally return. it’s a shame that he’s missing out on all this great food because of it.

still, he doesn’t think much of it. it’s all probably just his mother preparing the annual birthday breakfast for him.

when he enters the kitchen a while later, though, dressed and his hair -- at least -- a little less disheveled, it’s something else he finds. uh, not entirely but; his mother’s putting pancakes onto a plate, decorated with a smiley face and fruit around it to resemble a sun and the sweet scent almost overpowers the savory smell still left from earlier. her smile is bright when she sees him, so similar to his own, as she throws her arms around him in a tight hug, wishing him the happiest birthday.

baekhyun has to smile as well.

it’s only when he’s sitting at the table, trying to somehow get his breakfast down, that his mother places a lunchbox in front of him. “you even prepared lunch for me, mom?” that’s new, actually.

“even better.” she only smiles, tapping on the note attached to the box. “i thought to put it somewhere you can see it, otherwise you’d forget it for sure. i know my son.”

baekhyun makes a face at her, pushing a piece of strawberry into his mouth. as he chews, he takes the note, the other hand curiously lifting the lid of the box to peek inside. oh, wow. the food looks delicious. and with his mother not being the one who made it only one other person comes to mind that could’ve done this. he smiles to himself, the note confirming it a second later.

he’ll definitely eat that.

his actual plan is to write a note and stick it to johnny’s door as well, giving his thank you that well but he wouldn’t see that until the next weekend so baekhyun opts for writing him a text. later, at least -- if he doesn’t catch him around the company. maybe, they can eat this together.
