The girl leans against her father's work desk, which was in all honestly not used too much. Crossing her arms, she keeps her eyes trailing along the room's furniture as she asks casually, "So, you've been sleeping well?" She was more concerned then she let on, but Akane had caught onto the change in her father's behaviour quickly.
He had been looking over some important documents. Not something he did often, but lately he had been getting a bad feeling. So he had been doing it more, looking at information on his territories. Figuring out which ones were most vulnerable. Which ones needed the most protection. Something bad was going to be happening soon. He wasn’t sure what or when, but he did know that he needed to be able to make sure that his territories were safe. That’s the promise he made them. These islands, towns, villages- they had treated him and his crew with respect and kindness. He cared about them.
But something felt so wrong. He wasn’t sure why. And what was worse… Akane was going to be leaving soon. She would be out there when all of this was happening. What if she got caught in it? What if she suffered because of it? What if… No, he had to do everything in his power to make sure that she didn’t get hurt.
He knew she was there, of course, he felt her presence and he had heard the door- but her voice still surprised him a bit, causing him to look up a little startled. His hair was a bit more shaggy, his stubble more stubbly. Sleep? No, he hadn’t done much of that lately. His fear gripped him every time he slipped off. A party was his normal solution, drinking himself into a stupor until he passed out. But Akane had asked him time and time again to cut back, to not get so drunk. It was healthier for him to not drink as much, though he did find himself really tired- unable to rest easy.
His initial response to Akane would be a bold-faced lie. But he couldn’t lie to her. His next response would be to avoid the question with a vague answer and something to get her annoyed at him. Ah. Yes. Then she’d be annoyed. He didn’t want her to worry about him, that was the father’s job, not the daughter’s, “Dahaha, I’ve been sleeping,” he smiled- not well, no, and not long, but he had slept a little, “How about you, Akabunny? Your spot comfortable enough for you? Do you need more pillows?”
