Why rein? Why the eldest character?
I could write BOOKS on why I chose Rein, but I’ll try to keep this brief-ish.
When Overwatch first came out, I wasn’t that enthused by it, honestly. I was never into games like that, at the time I was mostly cruising through Zelda games and non-multiplayer games. But then I saw Rein.
And something just clicked.
Reinhardt is most definitely a loud, cocky, boisterous character. As you can see from his short, he was quite reckless as a Crusader. But after Eichenwalde, we see him change and evolve to what he is now.
I main Reinhardt, even if I don’t play him always, he’s the one character I have complete confidence in playing as. He was the first character I picked up when I started Overwatch. So I got a feel for his personality, from his voice lines and interactions with the other characters.
And he’s just.. He’s so happy to be alive. Sure, he has depression and has he downs like anyone else, but after all he’s seen, he still keeps a kind heart. And that’s SUCH a rare thing to see, especially with male characters.
Usually they’re gruff and moody and just all fuck you, and don’t get me wrong, that’s a valid potrayal and I love it. But Rein is a good example that men don’t have to be gruff and such to get shit done. He has a tender heart, and is just so polite. He can kick ass when need be, but just. He’s a gentle giant, and I just adore that.
