dead wife montage but it's just the person you used to be
sometimes I think about all the passion Anomaly had. They were in chorus, in dance class, they drew and painted, they were so insanely good at computers the IT guy in their high school would come to them for help. They loved to roller skate and create things and collect pinwheels and umbrellas.
And then they lost almost all that passion. All of it was ripped away from them. And no one bothered trying to figure out why. That's the real tragedy, isn't it? To have something horrible happen to you, for it to fundamentally change you as a person.
And everyone to throw you to the wolves for changing.
"we are smiling. can't you tell."
"big smiles!"
wall of text
You are a violent dog. You know exactly why you bite. You are a violent dog. Your bite is what will keep you safe.
In my Anomaly feels today (as is my usual state) so I made something for them!!!
It started with Anomaly trying to explain how one of their favorite songs was a waltz. It wasn't a song Dr. Carrard knew, and after a few days of searching, Anomaly was able to find it through slightly less than legal means.
The two of them debated on whether or not it really counted as a waltz for awhile, and to settle the debate, there seemed to be only one solution. Dance to the song to see if they could keep in a waltz timing. Neither Anomaly nor Dr. Carrard were ballroom dancers, but they both knew the basics of the dance well enough to keep up with the shifting rhythm of the song. Their musicality, both apart and together, was impressive.
The dance comes to an end with Dr. Carrard's laughter matched by Anomaly's grin.
"we could do this again, you know!" Dr. Carrard says, his gloved hand still on Anomaly's back, the other intertwined with one of theirs as they both hold the position they had been dancing in. "i like doing these things with you!"
He doesn't know if it's the way he said it. He doesn't know if it's something else. Anomaly has always been nearly impossible to read, and their mood can sour suddenly, like it does now. They tense under his touch, their body stiff and still, the smile turning to a sharp baring of the teeth, just barely visible against the angry buzzing of glitches that makes up their face.
"let go," they say, their voice maintaining the monotone, pulling their hand free from his.
"what-?" He's more confused than hurt, the light of his visor dimming. He doesn't let go right away, trying to find some way to make peace with them before this turns into something much more volatile. "anomaly? what did i--?"
He doesn't get to finish the question, they're yanking from his hold now, the feedback hum they usually give off increasing sharply, painfully, a howling, screeching warning that he should be heeding and quickly. The monotone is gone, suddenly their voice is sharper, panic bleeding into the edges of it. "don't touch me! don't! touch me!"
They pull themself up into the ceiling before he can try anything else to calm them down. With a sigh, he descends into the lab to leave them to cool off and himself to wonder just what it was that he did to set them off in the first place.
