“No!” She tried to shout the word, but her words were still barely above her normal voice. It probably did little to catch the man’s attention, but a little girl running up and grabbing his arm certainly would. She couldn’t believe he was trying to pluck a flower from the garden! Those could already be someone’s and once they were someone’s they had to be protected. The people here really didn’t know much about the Gallery if they were willing to just pull up a flower like that.

She kept a firm grip on his arm, not that it would probably do anything to stop him from pulling up the flower. It wasn’t like she was very strong. He could easily shake her off if he wanted. But that didn’t mean she wasn’t going to try stopping him. “...Don’t, take the flower.”

Ib stared up at the ceiling as she watched along the wall. The crowd in the ballroom made her hands shake and words catch in her throat, but the stars on the ceiling calmed her a bit. They were really pretty in her eyes and she wished she knew the names of the stars. Her mother had told her that some were constellations, with special names, but she had never bothered to learn any except the Big Dipper.

She was focused on the stars, not on where she was going, and the obvious result was running straight into a man’s back. She didn’t make a sound as she fell onto the ground, merely checking that her flower was okay before looking up at the man. 

Right, manners. She was supposed to apologize now for running into him. She opened her mouth, trying to get the words out, but they stuck in her throat and she couldn’t even force out a little sound. She closed her mouth suddenly, teeth clicking together as she continued to stare at him. Maybe he’d go away if she stared.
