Thoughts about Mal, Jay and Evie?

mal

mal is probably the most brave person i’ve ever been able to know. she’s a great friend, and i’d give my life for her any day.

jay

jay is my absolute best friend, and since i’ve never really had a true friend to compare him to, he’s the best one i’ve got. we’re brothers now, bound by the betrayal of our families. i don’t know what i’d do without him.

evie

evie is this strong, independent girl who i can’t believe ever felt weak. she’s critiqued my style so many times i don’t know how long i was staring at stripes and polka dots, but she means well in every way possible. she may be rotten, but she’ll sweeten for the right friend.

She sighed heavily. "I'm so special that I have to stay inside all the time, right? Papa goes out to beat the mean dogs and you bring back stuff for us but I always have to stay here."

“Y-yes, you do.” 

Billie knelt to look into her daughter’s eyes. “Evie, you s-stay here so we can k-keep you safe. Th-those dogs...well. You kn-know them. You’re special to u-us, your Papa and me. Th-that’s why you stay here. Soon, th-they’ll be gone, and you and I w-will run and play i-in the sun. W-we can wait a little l-longer, can’t we?”
