Hayden rolled her eyes as she looked out towards the street from a fire escape she was sitting on. She was running low on money, and she wasn’t exactly the type to go and do an honest days work for money. Her partner-in-crime, or her ex-partner-in-crime, had already up and left with her car, promising that he’d bring it back. She knew better than to trust that she would see it again. She was stuck, at least until she could convince someone to let her “borrow” their car.
She sighed, climbing down from the fire escape. She knew what she had to do, it was a schtick that she had done a million times before. She stepped onto the footpath, looking down at her feet until some bumped into her slight frame. She let herself fall onto the pavement, wincing as she hit the ground. “Oh, oh gosh, ah, sorry, I’m such a mess today.” Hayden looked up at the man who had bumped into her, mustering her best “distraught woman” act. She paired her wide eyes with deliberate sniffles. People tended to let their guard down if someone looked like their life was in shambles and that’s what she wanted.
