face down in the desert now there's a cage locked around my heart I found a way to drop the keys where my failures were now my hands can't reach that far I ain't made for a rivalry I could never take the world alone I know that in my weakness I am stronger it's your love that brings me home.
brother let me be your shelter I'll never leave you all alone I can be the one you call when you're low brother let me be your fortress when the night winds are driving on be the one to light the way bring you home.
👶 for a moodboard about my muse’s childhood
“but they might as well go chasin' after moon beams, or light a penny candle from a star.”
the dulcet sounds of antigone’s grandmother danced through the foyer of the hidden little summer home. her brothers had gone out fishing with her dad. tig had never liked the tradition much. sometimes she went just to sit by the water, but not today. her mother had a meeting in the city with a buyer that morning that was lasting longer than usual so antigone had been left at home with the matriarch who sang happily in the kitchen while she stirred a large pot of chicken soup.
“tell me what you see antigone.” the woman said without needing to glance back at the little girl who shuffled into the room. some people thought tig moved nearly silently through the house. she’d long ago memorized the creaks and bumps of the wood flooring, but her grandmother could listen with more than her ears. that’s why even a young tig knew her question had a deeper meaning. the girl pulled herself up haphazardly onto the stool next to the breakfast bar.
“noodles.” she giggled. her grandmother smiled. “how do you know I see anything grandma?”
the old woman set her wooden spoon to the side and turned around. “because I do. you don’t need to know anything more than that. now tell grandma what you see.” tig took another look at the soup. there did seem to be a pattern swirling in the ingredients.
“they’re not going to catch any fish.” in a miraculous twist of timing a frustrated door opened quickly down the hall and the clatter of two anxious boy’s footsteps echoed behind it. “did you know that too, grandma?”
“why do you think I started making soup this morning?” she winked.
