do you have a human verse?
[ nope! and i never plan to have one.
i know this is kind of strange for a non-human muse, but honestly, part of what makes this blog so much fun for me is that toothless isn't human. his motivations aren't human, his actions aren't human. he cannot talk.
it's a challenge for me, and i love it. i figure if dreamworks can make two movies centered around this creature that cannot speak, cannot communicate in anyway other than body language and actions, and give him a personality that millions have fallen in love with without the use of human mechanics, why can't i write him like that?
both in terms of actual writing style (how would a dragons thoughts translate onto paper? what mechanics of speech should i ignore so that it's obvious this is not a human's thought process? which ones should i include so that it's still coherent and obvious that this is an intelligent creature?) and mechanics (what sounds would a happy/sad/angry dragon make? how can i show that he's humiliated without saying it?), toothless is an amazingly fun challenge to write as a dragon, and i'd like to keep that up. it's basically the most fun exercise in 'show, don't tell' that i've ever had. ^^ ]
