Their jaws were chasing at their heels, long dripping fangs waiting to sink into the two humans they had found. Stumbling around in the darkness without a moon to guide them, huge shadows circled and struck. InuYasha barely had the time to shove Kagome before he was caught up by jagged teeth that tore his body apart. Had it be any other time, his suikan, along with his demonic blood, would make these terrible wounds feel less than lethal.
But the dark moon above looked on as the hanyou-turned-human was torn apart, painting the trees with a splash of crimson. A scream followed, a sacred arrow lighting up the area to reveal the predators that continued to lurk and stare as their prey limped away. InuYasha felt like his insides were about to fall out as he leaned heavily on Kagome. His hand was clamped around her shoulder painfully, but he couldn't notice past the agony and the red across his vision and he was going to die if they didn't get away.
Blinking past the blood that trickled down his face, he huffed with each step he took, leaving a trail that the hunters would undoubtedly follow. The youkai were quiet, laughing amongst themselves as the stupid mortals tried to escape. They weren't in a hurry; there were several of them against two humans and they had all night.
"K-Kagome," he grunted, loosening his hold on his companion. "You need to go find the nearest village..." Someone had to get out of this alive and, from the look of things, it definitely wasn't in his favor. Daybreak was a long five hours away before he could tear into these bastards with his claws. Until then, he had his rusty Tetsusaiga to rely on because damn him if he'd allow Kagome to fight these things off alone.
