Shiny eyes find their way to the man standing over him. Isaiah lays on the ground, bloody, beaten, broken in more than one spot. He grins and red spills down his lips and he grins wider.

"have faith, watcher," he spits, "i ain't done yet."

28. A kiss in parting

"i'll be back in a few hours," Isaiah says, voice quiet but carrying that same seriousness it does when he's going out to do something more dangerous than he wants to let on.

He does something that he hasn't done before, though. And that is to lean down and press a gentle kiss to Cad's lips. He lingers there a moment, and when he pulls back he's smiling.

"two or three. don't worry. i'll be seeing you again real soon."

Isaiah has only gotten out of bed to look out the window. The snow is still coming down, hard and fast, just as endlessly as it has been the past few days. He has no idea how much is piled out there now, only that it's up to the window now.

At least the heat was still working, pretty tirelessly at that. He looks back to Cad, on the bed, and is struck with the unfortunate and sudden thought that he thinks he may be in love. He looks away quickly and pushes a hand back through his hair.

"i uh," he doesn't turn back to look, "might go out, see what i can... see."

He still doesn't turn around. Instead he starts for his boots and coat.

A long pause follows the question, Isaiah looking down at his drink and frowning just slightly. He didn't hear anything, but that didn't mean there wasn't something to be heard. Only problem was he didn't quite trust the senses of the man sat beside him.

There was something off about him, off in a way that made Isaiah... Not wary, exactly, but uneasy. He felt this way around folks who turned to alcohol-- hypocritical, yes, but Isaiah would never assert himself to be free of that particular sin. Lotsa folks who turned to alcohol could be mean. Isaiah knew that. And while the other hasn't exactly given him enough to be sure of that, Isaiah remains uneasy. But not so uneasy that he refuses to offer a few words of comfort.

"might be th'music." He supplies, looking up at the ceiling where tinny old time rock and roll plays. "say whatcha will about ac/dc but it just doesn't sound quite right coming out of there."

The response is more biting than Isaiah intends it to be, but how could it not be? How could it not be when he holds the missing posters of his younger brother in his bag at all times to hand out to people? How could Isaiah be expected to respond with anything but venom when it was in part (and maybe mostly) his fault that their relationship had broken apart in their first place?

Isaiah did not give one single goddamn fuck if Elijah did not want to be found. He would find him anyway.

"i'm sorry." He tries to soften, barely manages. He needs a drink. "but it's my responsibility t'find him, god given, i'm afraid, and i don't intend to let god down."

A soft snort followed by the glass of whiskey being pulled to his lips. It's a more complex question with a more complex answer than Will is maybe bargaining for, leaving Isaiah to turn it around and around in his mind.

"in general, or 'bout this..." He peers over the file presented to him again. "situation?"

Because Isaiah knows what killed Amara Williamson, but doesn't think the FBI (unofficial or not) is gonna care much that it was a demon who did it. Demons don't die when you shoot the person who they're inhabiting, and the person who goes to jail 'cause they killed someone while possessed doesn't get rehabilitated.

"either way, i don't imagine you'll like what i believe." Rarely is Isaiah so worried about if someone has faith or does not have faith, but he's got someone to protect here. Someone who didn't ask to be possessed and didn't ask to kill anyone, either.

42. A clumsy kiss

It's only clumsy because Isaiah is drunk. It's not a bad kiss exactly, Isaiah is just unfocused. Interested, yes, but having trouble doing anything but chaste. After another moment, he pulls away, rubbing a hand over his face with a soft sigh.

"...sorry. feel like this is just. more awkward than it needs t'be. my, uh. my fault, i just."

He's quiet for a moment.

"i've got a lot on my mind. i don'want you to think this reflects bad on you, though."

"...not worryin' is kind of hard for me." Isaiah answers, voice soft. "look. why don't you, uh..."

And he smiles. Just slightly, trying to keep it gentle.

"why don't you travel 'round with me for a bit. help me look for elijah. i got plentya room in my truck. i could help keep you safe."
