Disillusioned Exorcist || (Berseria Verse)
[I felt the need to write some headcanons about this verse.]
Kratos was born into a noble family, of course, though they weren’t very high up on the ladder. Much to his mother’s dismay, she had to work extra hard to be noticed by other noblewomen.
His family suffered some intense ridicule when he abandoned the Abbey. Neither of his parents have forgiven him for that disgrace. Not that he cares, since they didn’t approve of his marriage to Anna, either.
He did have one human caretaker when he was young, an old woman named Selma, who constantly fell asleep while watching him. Which was why Faelan, a malak, spent time looking after him.
Though Kratos couldn’t see Faelan, he could hear her, and liked to simply listen to her tell stories, or sing. Through spending time with her, he was able to develop a slightly higher resonance, though he was never able to fully see her until the night of The Opening, where she died to protect him from a daemon attack. His training as a knight allowed him to finish the daemon off, but that wouldn’t have been possible without her sacrifice.
Growing up, he was trained by a knight, since his father expected him to join the military. But after the Opening, he ended up joining the Exorcist’s Abbey instead. It was his dream to protect the people, and what better way than to fight the daemons that ordinary people couldn’t go up against?
Noishe was assigned to him after gauging his ability as an exorcist. The Abbey didn’t exactly have high hopes for Kratos as an exorcist, but he was a remarkably skilled fighter, even without a malak.
Meeting Anna changed his world view, and Kratos knew he couldn’t live his life without her. He at first requested permission from the Abbey to get married, but they shot the request down. He went and married Anna anyway.
Anna became a daemon after watching a group of teens pushing Lloyd around, constantly pushing him over as he tried to walk around. She very nearly killed one of them, and only came to her senses when she saw how terrified the poor kid was (as well as hearing Lloyd crying). Kratos felt that showed she was still very much herself, and never blamed her for her reaction.
Kratos was out hunting rumors of a daemon in the area they were living, when the Abbey found and killed Anna. Noishe alerted him to a trap set up ahead, and he turned back, but returned home too late.
During his travels alone with Noishe, he met another malak named Ifrit. She was fighting on her own, and cursed him for being an exorcist when he tried to use a malak-arte to heal her. But when she discovered the nature of Kratos’ companionship with Noishe, she asked if Kratos would make a pact with her, as well.
Ifrit, while being a fire malak, can also utilize earth-based artes. She’s got a fiery temper, and fights with a dual-blade. She has short white hair with bright red tips, and blazing gold eyes.
Having already found that there are many daemons that still retain much of their humanity, Kratos refuses to kill them unless they are truly a threat to everyone else. If they are willing to live away from humans, then he typically doesn’t bother them, perhaps aside from bringing them supplies on occasion.
