Headcanon: Magic

Mirana’s white hair is a symbol of her magic & gifts of healing.

“My Mother taught me how to concoct all the medicinal cures and transformational potions.”

Mirana was born with the gifts of healing magic and charms. Her mother possessed similar gifts and was able to pass them down to her. However, she noticed her daughter had other gifts she was unaware of. With her healing gifts, came with a form of “light magic”, magic meant to aid in the healing arts. It included the ability of controlling elements found in nature such as making plants grow and controlling the movement of water, air, and fire. Most importantly, some powerful magic as well. She was able to develop various charms and enchantments, some more complicated than others. One could tell if such magic was conjured by the White Queen as they emitted a pink glow. Almost like a magical signature.

Her powers include:

Healing & Nature: She chooses to use her magic mainly for potions, healing, and performing small enchantments.

♥ With a simple touch, she is able to heal small wounds/injuries and cure minor ailments. She can heal more severe injuries and ailments with the help of her potions.

♥ She is able to manipulate elements found in nature and command their movement. Plant-life can grow instantly with her power and can be quite lethal in her darkened state.

Dark Magic: She possesses much more powerful magic buried within her, capable of destruction and murder. Due to her vows, she refuses to use this form of magic in fear she would harm others and is terrified of her true magical abilities in which she believes she would not be able to control.

Possible scenarios adaptable to verses/threads:

♥ She possesses the gift of immortality. Her gifts of light magic allows her to live for centuries and slow her aging. Only enchanted weapons such as the Vorpal Sword can kill her. The blade is paralleled to Excalibur (Merlin) / The Dark One’s dagger (OUAT)

♥ Whoever manages to kill her will inherit her magic. For obvious reasons, she would keep this gift a secret and only tell those she trusts.

♥ She takes a no harm vow because possessing light magic comes with a price. Every individual she harms with her magic, it weakens her healing power.

Parts of Mairwen’s Dragon Age verse that are Canon-Divergent

Mairwen is visibly half-elvhen. While not everyone can tell that she is, once people know, it’s pretty obvious. [And many people suspect due to her ears having a bit of a point.]

Mairwen has a fade touched horse, this happened during their travels when they ventured somewhere where the veil was very thin. It causes Garaja to be more resistant to injury than a normal horse, as well as being smarter [and able to understand Mairwen better.]

Mairwen has been ‘saved’ and temporarily to permanently bonded to two spirits. She was unaware of both of them being what they are. The first she begins to realize became something like Cole through her, while the second is half-possessing her [but largely silent, unlike other instances]. She’s largely unaware of the second spirit.

Mairwen is pretty good at hiding the flow of magic around her in order to keep her people from realizing what she is. 

Questionably Canon Things

She is essentially a self-taught arcane warrior, having far more skills with blades than her magic. [She calls her specialization ‘Charlatan’]

Her magic was very weak when she was young, which made her mother hopeful that she’d be able to hide it, even though that changed later.

Mairwen’s tattoos are Rivaini and help with her controlling her magic, given to her by local Seers/Hedge Witches. [More on the Meta here.]

Short Overview of her Magic {this is meta information that people might notice}

The only training she’s ever received in magic is from elves and from Rivaini hedge witches and both were very limited. But their influences show the most in her style. The elvhen style stands out as more recognizable since not as many people are familiar with Rivaini hedge witches. 

The majority of the words for casting her spells are in elvhen, and she mutters them under her breath while fighting.

She tends to emit static when she’s emotional. It can be hard to notice if you’re not touching her or right next to her, but it’s there against her skin. If she feels like she’s getting too angry, she switches to fire and burns her palms instead.

If she starts using more magic than normal or doing spellwork that isn’t channeled through her daggers, it affects her hands and arms the most, and she’ll have a stronger Lichtenberg scar along them for a couple days until they fade. [She often wears gloves because of it.]

When her magic ‘backfires’ or discharges suddenly, her hands either hurt or go numb. Sometimes both. [A templar purging magic while she’s trying to cast can make her drop her daggers from the sudden numbness.]

Most of her magic is focused on being useful rather than powerful. So she can keep her tea warm more often than use any standard mages’ spell. 

People with a good nose might notice that she smells slightly of ozone when she’s fighting.

The Sorcerer

Magic never knew his mother and the man who raised him was not his biological father, but he was his dad none the less. He was told that his father was a greedy sorcerer who tried to strengthen his bloodline by making a pact with a Phoenix and that his mother very shortly after Magic was born was drafted and likely died in a war.

Most of that never bothered the young child, it was just the circumstances under which it would grow up. Though what would really become a problem was the blood of the phoenix. Magic’s magick powers were violent, unpredictable. Unspeakingly powerful outbursts of hot, scalding magick. A fire that knows no friend, not even sparing the skin of the caster. Magic was just a child when people determined that he was too dangerous. Burns scar his body from early age on as an obvious warning to everyone that this child has a burden to bear.

Magic tried to attend school like any normal kid would but not even half a year later he was expelled - permanently. The young Magic would seriously injure other kids without wanting to. Thus Magic grew up as a social outcast, the only person who spoke to him being his dad. His dad tried his best to teach Magic to handle his abilities but the power of a phoenix was running through his veins and such power was not to be tamed.

Homeschooled and insanely bored Magic picked up all sorts of hobbies during his preteen years. He was talented in figuring out how to enchant trinkets, he could juggle porcellain mugs, cheat you to hell and back in about every card game and was a pretty decent ventriloquist. But his big fascination was music. He taught himself how to play lute and whenever he sneaked out to play on the streets he was good enough that people would stop and listen and sometimes even give a silver or two.

He learned to manage his phoenix talent better than when he was just a wee lad but he was still far from achieving complete control. Magic never hid his scars, though. To him they were a constant reminder to try to do better every day.

As soon as he was of age he told his dad goodbye, Magic had a hunger and he wanted to see the world. As a travelling musician and artist he usually had enough money to care for himself but in winter he decided it was better to stay in an inn for a longer time. The Crimson Raven was the inn of his choice in his 20th winter. But he wasn’t the only permanent guest in this inn.

A duo of revolutionaries nested here and the young Sorcerer started to like their ideas of overthrowing the king a little too much and joined them.
