I was never big into the hunger games and think it is far from a perfect story but i do find it pretty masterful that it has a "gottem" energy meta wise
Like, in-universe all the people are more focused/into and willing to make exceptions due to some mad starcrossed lovers fiction tale all while katniss and most of the non capital people are like "hey what about all this TYRANNY and CHILD MURDERING going on can we focus more on that being an issue?" And thats met with no shhh shuddup clearly this girl is only acting rebellious to this violent regime bc of the power of love(romance, and most noticeablely to a guy she barely knows) nothing else would make her crazy enough to stand up to the capital!!!1!!
And then irl wise the are some fascinating and complex themes about dictatorship, classism, propaganda and much more but what was the big selling point that most people obsessed over? Who katniss would get together with, peeta or gale. And idk, man that effect just holds up such a mirror to amatonormativity, sexism/misogyny, and fandoms now dunnit?
