Kookie loved playing with the kids outside, as summer came to an end, fall came quickly. It was always amazing to see the leaves of the trees change color and fall from their trees littering the ground for those to admire. Or in Kookie’s and the kids case, to play in. He always loved gathering big piles of leaves to run though and jump inside, surprisingly they were nice and soft when bunched together, but crisp and crunch on their own, making them fun to step on. Burrowing himself inside the pile of leaves, he pops up to playfully scare the children and play tag. it’s been a while since he had played with children as deep in his heart he hurt, missing his own child. He tries not to think of the pain for now, he wants to enjoy the feeling of being seen and wanted.
It’s not until the kids are called back inside because it was getting cold out and that it was time for dinner, does Kookie feel sad. No longer having friends to play with he looks rather down, his ears sort of falling down at the sides of his face when usually they were perked up right. Sighing he glances up at the tree which only had a few leaves hanging onto it and he feels connected to that tree, as if he had only a little bit left of him that was hanging on. If Minjun and his sister were to forget him, he only has a few more children to remember him to keep him alive. How long will children remember him if he’s not a constant in their life? Facing your own mortality was-- scary.
Pushing himself up from the base of the tree he was going to see if he could find somewhere else to play before it gets too dark, and that’s when he notices something from the corner of his eye, he sees a man among the leaves, but when he touched them something amazing happened-- He couldn’t believe his eyes-- was this magic? Was he seeing things? He couldn’t be sure what he was actually seeing...
Making his way closer he tries to see what the man was doing. It wasn’t as if he could see him considering only children who believed in imaginary friends could.
