nova –– who is your greatest inspiration or strength?

these types of questions are always the hardest for sejun to answer. because he knows what kind of answer they’re looking for, something generic about family or his favorite idol. it’s no secret that there are certain groups, producers that got him into the music game. most don’t know the truth though, that it was his competitive nature that pushed him to attain this dream he never knew he had. a bad fight with his brother, the greed at wanting to prove him wrong, and suddenly he was staring in the eye of the camera as he sang for a room full of strangers. he was putting forth effort in his dancing and seeing the rewards that came with practice and hardwork. and from that moment, he was addicted, wanting to shine golden no matter what. 

but sejun can’t say all of that to a stranger, knows that whatever comes tumbling out of his mouth will end up in some clip on naver or youtube, will stare up at him immortalized in black ink on the page of a magazine. and so instead of telling the truth, he schools his features and smiles a bit more practiced instead. “my greatest inspiration would have to be my members and the fans. they’re the ones that keep me going, keep me wanting to be better.”

constellation –– do you have any ambitions or personal goals for the future?

sejun often measures himself differently: the sejun before atlas and the sejun after. before joining the company as a trainee, he was so lighthearted, unsure of his future and without a care in the world. he started singing and dancing on a whim, an interest built up in attending a performing arts school. he had no plans on going to university, there simply wasn’t any money with his brother attending one of the illustrious SKY. instead he shrugged his way through conversations and interviews with his teachers, snuck out to the PC rooms to play games, and avoiding his grandparents at every turn. 

KJHGC had been a simple whim. a moment where destiny took everything into its own hands and surprised the ever living shit out of him when he was accepted. he thought it would be just as easy, golden child sejun didn’t have trouble tackling things that came his way. but he was wrong, so fucking wrong. instead, he learned the meaning of hardwork, of grounding his blood and sweat into the floors of the practice studios. he traded sleep, health, and time for talent and determination. with vocal chords turned raw, he built a legacy for himself. a road that left imaginary scars on his arms, marks that only he could see when he thought about the stream of time.

a question like this felt loaded, like he could put all of his hopes and dreams into a few simple words. but he was a professional and it was easy to slide into sol’s skin. “i’m really looking forward to hopefully helping out more with the technical aspect of our music. i’ve been learning a lot watching the members in the process and hopefully this time i can help out wherever’s needed.” the words sting only him, reminding him of a hurdle he has yet to get over. it’s hidden carefully behind a simple smile.
