Headcanon

Kankuro isn’t confident of his bare face for a few reasons.

One being that he always feels more powerful with the war paint on. In homage to his puppeteer background. A nod to his main fighting style and the instructors that taught him. It’s prideful to wear such paint on his face.

The other reason is that he looks so much like his father. He worries for his siblings, Gaara most of all. Gaara was scarred by their father and he doesn’t want his own face to be associated with the man that brought them all so much pain. He is scared that Gaara will one day look at him and only see that monster of a man. So to cover it up with the paint is how he tries to distract from that. He wears the paint partially to protect his siblings from his own looks.

Headcanon: Relationships

Genma isn’t damaged any more than any other ninja of the leaf. All ninja have been through things, Nin from the leaf in particular over the last few decades. However it’s impacted Genma in a certain way.

He’s very unlikely to be in a relationship. At least at the moment. He likes having friends, and he’s all up for casual sex. However he can never seem to take the step further than that.

It’s not that he stops talking to peope once he’s slept with them, the opposite in fact. He just is generally uncomfortable with the concept of having one person you’re devoted to.

As a high ranking shinobi, a shinobi who has been on many dangerous solo missions and also almost not made it back home many, many times, he doesn’t want someone waiting fro him. His friends are different, and he wouldn’t trade them for anything, but he could’t have someone waiting for him.

Headcanon: Gates and Goodbyes

Genma never stops at the gates if he can help it. He refuses to stop and allow himself time to think about leaving the village on another mission. He refuses to let himself dwell on if this will be the lat time, or when he’ll be back.

He needs and wants his head in the game at all times.

Thus, when he is scheduled to leave with others instead of on a solo he will wait until he knows everyone will be there and simply walks down the street and out of the front gates, gesturing to whoever he’s with to head out with him. He won’t stop, not until he can’t see the village any more.
