⌠ lili reinhart, 22, genderfluid, she/her ⌡ welcome back to gallagher academy, thursday ‘poppy’ whitaker kennedy! according to their records, they’re a third year, specializing in linguistics, culture, & assimilation + knife fighting skills, sword training, precision shooting, firearms & swat training; and they did go to a spy prep high school. when i see them walking around in the halls, i usually see a flash of ( daddy’s little girl hides her rebellion, a chameleon for any company, not sure what day of the week it is ). when it’s the (sagittarius)’s birthday on 12/13/97, they always request lucky charms from the school’s chefs. looks like they’re well on their way to graduation. ⌿

everyone has heard of the kennedy’s. however, poppy isn’t from that part of the family. no, she has never personally been a household name, but she has had all of the responsibility of that infamous surname.
born the youngest of three to archie and verity kennedy, poppy grew up with every luxury that could be afforded in her parent’s estate in cambridge, massachusetts. yet she never quite realize how lucky she had it.
her father was a second born son of the famous family, but her mother had been a relative no one from savannah, ga, who worked her way to a teaching position at harvard university. the two fell in love quickly despite the mild disapproval from the rest of the family.
at the age of four, her father decided to enter the world of politics. it wasn’t a shock, of course. it sort of came with the genealogy. it did mean that poppy was expected to become an american sweetheart. asking perfection from a four year old was a bit much.
as she aged, poppy grew to resent the caricature that she’d been painted into. she knew that rebelling publicly would not be tolerated. not to mention, her grandmother was terrified any heathens in their family would fall victim to the family curse.
instead, she became a perfect princess in the public eye, and a bit of a chaotic mess behind closed doors. she doesn’t control her impulses very effectively, and her temper is even worse when she gets provoked.
since she could not control much of the rest of her life, poppy did become very controlling of her eating. she also spent a good deal of time flirting with men who had no business reciprocating it. then the worst happened.
pictures had been taken without knowledge or consent, and it was threatened to be spread around to tabloids. they did not paint poppy in a very good light. think lindsey lohan circa 2009. in a panic, poppy tried to clean up the mess herself. however, it was her family that made all of it go away swiftly.
eventually, her parents found it best to send her away to boarding schools. the first few didn’t work out. poppy insisted they were nightmare academies run by the worst of the worst of prejudiced assholes. her mother finally consented to letting poppy choose her own avenue for education.
that’s how poppy ended up at gallagher. she made the decision for herself to enter the world of espionage. she discovered that she had a knack for it. it was as if all her family had forced on her had made her the perfect candidate.
gallagher has given her a sense of purpose and direction. it’s helped channel some of her more chaotic tendencies, though it has exacerbated others. she debated a few majors, but finally settled on the two that would be most valuable to her unique position when she left the academy.

poppy is the neapolitan ice cream of people; full of classic flavor, but a blend of opposites. her entire life has been very hot and cold. she’s got a perfect veneer of politician princess in a set of pretty pearls, but underneath it’s a wild streak with quick snap anger. she’s clever and quick on her feet, but often doesn’t attempt to live up to her full potential. poppy can’t stand the idea of being a disappointment to her family. she wants to make them proud more than anything, and simultaneously wants everyone to think she doesn’t care at all. sometimes it feels like she’s tearing apart at the seams and fraying into nothingness. all that being said, she has a great sense of humor across the board, she’s a fiercely loyal friend, and has an insatiable zest for life. everyone knows that if they want someone who is down for an adventure, to call poppy. she’ll be there in a heartbeat, and often with literal ice cream.
♛ → headcanons
nicknames are sort of a ‘thing’ in poppy’s family. she isn’t sure why or how the name poppy came about. it certainly isn’t in reference to any of her other posh names, but she’s been called that by everyone for as long as she can remember.
poppy’s relationship with her parents is tenuous at best, but her relationship with her siblings is as close as possible. her brother is the oldest, and her sister is the middle child. unfortunately, they both had even more responsibilities heaped on them than poppy ever had, but she would be lost without their guidance and love.
the kennedy family has retreats a few times a year in the countryside in massachusetts. that’s where poppy first learned to love weaponry. they would hunt, shoot targets, fence, and get history lessons on their twice great grandfather’s prized collection of rare war memorabilia.
poppy is a self-proclaimed movie expert. while she loves movies, television, and even video games. it’s movies that stole her heart at a young age. old school hollywood makes her eyes dazzle with day dreams.
the summers she spent with her mother’s side of the family in the south were always her favorite. despite it being unbearably hot, there were far less to worry about hidden away from massachusetts. there would even be days when poppy felt completely normal. she craves that feeling, despite suspecting it will be hard to come by even as a spy.
poppy prefers to wear patterns and prints that are funky and floral. her favorite old denim jacket is covered in protest pins. she tends to be very trendy and up on the most current styles you would find in a magazine. she tends towards bright colors, chunky shoes, and her fingernails are always manicured perfectly to match her outfit.
