“Well, I think,” Thera pointed out with all due gravitas, “we really ought to go right now.”

Anyone who knew either of them - be that Intern, Exec or Turk - would have been instantly suspicious. The absolute straight faces, serious to the point of a frown, the listening-intently body language ... all in all, it was a level of complete and utter bullshit that she herself was finding it difficult to contain.

“I mean I might be wrong.” She was almost certainly wrong, having just made this theory up a few minutes before, but the more she thought about it the more it might actually fly. “But there’ll be so many people out there tonight, any sort of evidence could be damaged or destroyed.”

Her coat was already in her hands, in the process of being slipped on, and she was nodding emphatically to Scar, both to sell the point and for the benefit of the security tapes. “We should get out there at once to make sure nothing is missed.”

Accidentally breaking something and running away - Scarlet breaks something, Thera is in wrong place, wrong time (aka, accomplice), and both of them having to leg it. ------------

"Y’know, I hate to say it ..." Thera sighs, looking down at the sparkling fragments that are mostly scattered on the floor but are also on the table, in the potted plant, and in the case of one especially ambitious slice, embedded in the wall, "But I think you've finally discovered something that duct tape won't fix."

She’s only really there because her ears are far too keen, and her militia habits too engrained to ignore a suspicious sound once it’s heard. Like, in this case, the distinctive crack-ssh-tinkle! of a glass sculpture on the Executive level almost exploding off its pedestal.

And of course, where there’s an explosion, there’s got to be Scar.

“That ...” She can hear voices not too far away, approaching - apparently someone else had heard the noise as well - and besides that her thoughts have caught up and she has a very bad feeling ... “That wasn’t Palmer’s ‘Reach for the Stars’ accomplishment trophy, was it?”

Palmer’s rather old, very prized accomplishment trophy. She looks up, and suddenly realises that she’s standing there alone - except for the arse-end of a sleek red dress that’s currently disappearing out the door.

Her eyes widen, and with curses fit to make a Turk blush, Thera turns and scurries after.

“No! Scar, no!” It’s about as convincing as a child refusing candy, or speaking to a puppy when it’s being adorable. “I don’t need any six-inch heels, thank you all the same!”

There’s going to be a protest, because of course there is, and because everyone on the Executive level suddenly wants to be a wingman. “I promise, it’s fine.” An impulsive peck on the other woman’s cheek to try and stop the (mostly theatrical) red-lipped pout. 

“If I get really desperate, there are ladders in the Library!”

“I can explain...” One red-clad Executive caught red-handed sneaking an aggressive-looking roomba into the office of Thera’s immediate boss. Because he deserves it, obviously. ------------

... Why her?

‘Red-handed’ is a term that can only be applied to Scarlet with a due sense of humour, but all things considered it’s a time for that humour right now. Precisely what Mayor Domino has done to deserve a roomba with a view Thera doesn’t know, and isn’t in a particular hurry to find out - she’s more concerned with the keeping her palm from her face as she wonders why, out of all the people who might have stumbled upon the sight, it had to be her.

There’s a pause. And a blink. And then a quiet sigh as the Archivist delivers a warning to the Exec as is the obligation of her job.

“Don’t get any blood on the books.”

With that, she and her sweet, beloved plausible deniability turn and leave.

"Stop being so melodramatic, Christian," Scarlet teased back as her smile grew wider, sprawled on the couch where he was seated while her head was resting on his lap. "You're not going to die. Besides, you've been kissed more than I could even count. Probably," the blonde assumed before her eyes drifted back to the cartoons playing on the screen.
