Haru let out a sigh, examining the instructions to the tent as he sat in his camping chair. He wasn’t entirely sure where his tent buddy was, but he knew that he couldn’t particularly waste anymore time hanging around for them to show up; putting up a tent in the dark wasn’t exactly the easiest of tasks. “You got this, Roo.” He quietly spoke, trying to give himself some encouragement. He had put up a tent before, but that had been a combined effort with his parents and now he definitely didn’t have the help of two other people. Standing up, he carefully began connecting the poles, checking every so often to make sure that he was following the instructions correctly. He hadn’t exactly imagined that he would be spending a week in a tent when he joined Roommate, but he supposed life was full of surprises. 

After a slight struggle involving a pole flinging itself off into the distance, Haru stood with pride as he admired his tent. It was an achievement, and he could now officially begin to start to relax. Placing his bag and sleeping bag in the tent for later, he decided to finally get set on cooking dinner. It wasn’t that he was trying to gain points - maybe deep down, a tiny part of him was - but he was still very aware that his boyfriend was still in the midst of the recovery process and it was for that very reason that he decided that he would be making food for both him and Jaehoon. Taking the portable cooker that he had brought along, he set himself down a way aways from the tent before beginning to get to business, getting a pan of water to boil before opening the packet of ramen. He knew it wasn’t anything fancy, but he figured a bit of ramen wouldn’t put Jaehoon off course. 

As he waited for the ramen to cook, he pondered to himself about the potential things the producers had in store for them - he knew it was halloween themed, but he knew it was probably going to be a week of being slightly amused. For as long as he could remember, Haru had never been scared of anything typically spooky or terrifying. Apart from adding pieces of ham and some spinach, it was when the ramen was finally cooked that Haru moved, dishing it up into two tupperware boxes so that he could give one to Jaehoon. Carefully moving the cooker so that it could cool, Haru set off to find his boyfriend; hopefully this event would be an interesting one.

the camera shakes slightly, and the view is that of a corner of a bedroom -- white sheets, and a baby blue comforter. a stuffed torchic is placed neatly on the pillow. the figure of a girl walks around, assuming she had fixed the camera iso and focus, and she sits at the end of the bed, in front of the camera, looking directly into the lens as she speaks.

“so hi,” she begins, head tilting slightly to the side, some of her jet-black hair falling off her shoulder. “i just finished packing a little while ago, and i’m getting shipped off to monaco first thing tomorrow morning. it’s my last day in a long while at jean grey’s, but hey. i hated the idea the first time, but you know that. i tell you everything. anyway, i’m doing this for you, you know.” she chuckles lightly, shaking her head. she runs slender fingers through her hair as she continues.

“did you miss me?” she asks, voice softer. “i hope you didn’t cause any trouble yet. i mean, it’s been a week since you got there.” a pause. she looks thoughtful for awhile. “this has been the longest we’ve gone without each other, huh? since we met. years ago.” a soft laugh. “i’m coming, though. see you in a few hours. wait for me, troi.”

for a moment, she looks tense, her eyes lowering, as if hesitant about something. her eyebrows furrow, and her jaw clenches. finally, she looks back up, reaches out, and turns off the camera.

Emptiness.

There’s a void in her chest she can’t quite place her finger on, a severe heaviness that leaves a bitter taste on her tongue until her breath is caught, caged up in fear and confusion and a little bit of regret.  There're gaps between her fingers she hasn’t quite gotten used to, silence where she could’ve sworn there had been sound.  It’s a feeling that keeps her awake at night, wordless thoughts running through her mind until sleep takes her by force.  She doesn’t understand the emptiness, and so she smiles and smiles until it fades into oblivion.  Sometimes, though, she thinks she hears a whisper.
