@sometimesrufus continued from x
When Rufus had asked him to go on a secret assignment for him Reno did not hesitate a single second to say yes. There were little things Reno wouldn’t do for the vice president and doing something that sounded like a simple favour wasn’t a big deal, not after everything they had been through together already. Reno literally owed his life to Rufus with the Shinra heir being the one that had stopped the Turks from being executed. Plus, the complicated feelings the redhead kept in his heart and which he only sometimes had the chance and courage to act on.
Stepping into the elevator Reno pressed the buttons to get to the 66th floor, which was the floor of Hojo’s main laboratory, then he crossed his arms in front of his chest. He didn’t like this man, not one bit, but who really did, to Reno the professor was nothing but a creepy old dude, and stepping into his lair wasn’t exactly something he was looking forward to. Yet, Rufus had asked him and Reno couldn’t deny him anything. Adjusting the tiny earpiece he was wearing to stay in touch with the vice president he then quietly said: “You know how much I enjoy it when you praise me, but I am not so sure it will help me to focus right now, especially not when you use that damn smooth voice of yours.”
Reno sighed. Sometimes he wondered if getting involved with Rufus Shinra had been a smart decision. It had its perks of course; Rufus was beautiful, his voice could be smooth as silk sometimes and get Reno all weak in the knees, but he had a way with words that could either make his insides feel all warm and tingly or absolutely tear him to pieces. He hated to admit it, but Reno was sure he loved this blond and insufferable guy, as annoying as it was. And that would always be a problem. He was a Turk, he was supposed to be a human weapon, no feelings or attachments allowed, especially not towards the heir of the Shinra Empire itself. Rufus would be the death of him, Reno knew that, but he couldn’t stop, so he better enjoyed the ride as long as he could. “What do you need me to look for anyways?”, he then asked and stuffed his hands in the pockets of his trousers as the doors of the elevator opened and he stepped out into the dimly illuminated hallway. What a creepy place. “I could also simply set his laboratory on fire if that would amuse you.”
@sometimesrufus asked: [ WAIT ]: realizing the receiver is about to leave the room, the sender hastily reaches out and catches their wrist, preventing them from continuing their departure.
Sitting behind Rufus on the couch Tseng used a brush to comb through the president’s silky blonde hair until it was free of any tangles that could have occurred during sleeping or Rufus’ usual daily business. Ever since Rufus had gotten sick with Geostigma it had become part of Tseng’s morning routine to help the president getting ready for his day as well. It always depended on the condition Rufus was in; on his good days Rufus was back to his talkative, teasing and scheming self, roaming Healen Lodge in his wheelchair and being a menace to any Turk that was unfortunate enough to run into him, while on his bad days the only thing Tseng could to was carefully rub Rufus’ back and whisper soothing things to him as the pain made the usually so strong and confident president curl himself into a ball, waiting and hoping for the pain to ease. Tseng did his best to support Rufus in any way he could; helping him bathe, brushing his hair, dressing him in the morning, and none of it felt weird, thanks to the profound bond they had been sharing for years now. Being with and around Rufus felt as natural as being with any other Turk. They were his family and he would do anything for them.
Today it seemed to be one of the good days as Rufus was happily chattering about the next plans he had for the new city of Edge while Tseng was now standing in front of him, listening attentively as his fingers made quick work of buttoning up the president’s shirt. Then he straightened up, looking at Rufus with affection openly displayed on his face. Even looking at him now reminded him of the moment it all had started.
“Do you remember..”, Tseng began and a fond little smile found its way onto his lips, “..the day we’ve met for the first time? It had been my first day with the Turks, I was looking for Veld and I was close to panicking because back then I didn’t even know how to tie my own tie. I’ve been so stupid, didn’t even know who you were when I walked up to you, asking you to fix my tie. ‘Excuse me, Sir, this is so embarrassing, but could you help me with my tie?´”, Tseng repeated the words he had spoken years ago in a mocking voice to express how silly he had been back then, but as he thought about it he was glad they had had this encounter when they were younger, because otherwise they probably wouldn’t be here right now. Together.
“So, Rufus, do you think you are prepared for your day?”, Tseng asked, glancing at the president’s appearance, then he stepped away to grab his own jacket, putting it on and rolling up the sleeves to reveal his forearms. The Turk had another day of gathering intelligence ahead of him, trying to find a cure for Geostigma or at least a way to ease Rufus’ pain, investigating other patients down in Edge, maybe finding similarities between the sick people that would explain why some got Geostigma while others were not affected by it at all. “I will be back soon, stay out of trouble, will you?” But just as he was about to leave did he feel slender fingers wrap themselves around his wrist and Tseng stopped, barely able to hide the worry on his face as he looked at Rufus. “What is wrong, Rufus? Is there anything else you need before I go?”
