DROPS OF COLD SWEAT dripped down your slumbering body, as you continued to swiftly move in your sleep with your eyes roughly shut. you wanted to wake up from the frightening nightmare, but as hard as you tried, you weren't able to. the night terror you were having carried on. the same night terror you've been having for about a year now, after joining the other kids at the boarding school few months before that. you managed to grow close with all the other survivors at the school, but with the attachment to them came also a fear of them getting hurt or even disappearing forever.
the scenario was very familiar to you at this point. you'd wake up to loud and painful screams, causing you to rush out of the comfort of your bed to the front yard of the school. stomach tightening at the view, you frantically looked around to place, just to see all your friends in some sort of dangerous. aasim lying down on the dirty ground, trying to fight the big walker on top of him, as heavy grunts left his lips. that was until aasim lost his brawl and the walker sunk it's teeth into his neck. seeing this made your breath hitch inside your throat, before you could focuse on finding the rest of your friends, in a hope to save them.
one by one, you watched each of your friends die by many different ways and you couldn't help it. mentally begging for the horror to finally end, your thoughts were cut off by a female scream. your eyes quickly widened, when the realisation hit you. you knew who the piercing scream belonged to. looking all around the half-burned down place, you searched for the source and it didn't took too long for you to find it. you felt like crying, screaming and throwing up at the same time, when your gaze landed on the notably familiar blonde. violet.
body being faster than your own mind, you sprinted underneath the balcony, where violet was fighting two walkers, being cornered. as the blonde female's meat cleaver gashed into the walker's head, destroying it's brain, a small wave of relief ran over you. the feeling of relief didn't stuck for too long, because in a matter of a second the other walker pushed all it's weight onto violet, causing her to break through the balcony railing. a scream echoed throughout the entire place, before violet's body met the harsh ground, followed by a ear-ripping silence.
your heart broke into million and more pieces. the person, who made you feel alive again and who you longed for, have just took her last breath right in front of you. as the loud ringing filled your ears, your body became paralysed, not allowing you to move or at least shut your eyes close, hating the sight of a walker sinking it's disgusting teeth into violet's lifeless body. this is the part, where you'd wake up from the deadly nightmare most of the time, yet this time, you haven't done so. you were forced to watch the scene in front of you for what felt like hours. after seeing one of the walkers rip out violet's organs and bring them closer to it's mouth, a walker blocked your view, as it made it's way closer toward you, letting out low growls, while you stood there, still paralysed.
when the walker chewed onto the side of your neck, you let out a horrifying, long scream. rapidly sitting up from your lying position, you looked all around, the realisation of you being inside your own room hitting you. as your chest kept fastly raising up and down, you brought one of your hands towards the left side of your neck, where the walker has bit you in the nightmare, gripping it tightly. tears streamed down your cheeks, while you tried to calm yourself down. the only noise echoing inside the dark room was your heavy breathing, but not for too long.
the sound of door slamming open, caused you to let out a startled gasp. gazing toward the old door, you were met with the familiar blonde standing in the doorway, panicked expression plastered across her face. "y/n!" violet called out, a relieved sigh following, when she noticed you weren't in any visible danger. "i'm sorry for barging in just like this, but i heard screams and-" rubbing the back of her neck, violet averted her gaze. "-and i was scared something might have happened." finishing her explanation, violet's eyes continued being glued to the wooden floor, silently wondering why haven't you said a word yet. slowly looking up, the blonde female was about to say something, until her own breath was knocked out of her.
you managed to hurry out of your bed, throwing the covers to the side, before sprinting towards violet and tightly embracing her. clutching the fabric of violet's hoodie, you quickly hid your face in the crook of her neck. at your sudden actions, it took the blonde a few seconds to realise what's going on and when she did, the raising heat all over her body was unstoppable. violet was never "people person" and neither someone, who was a big fan of physical affection, but having you shakily clung onto her this way, caused something inside of her to click. violet hesitantly placed each of her hands on your back, before softly rubbing it in a comforting manner. melting into the hug, violet rested the side of her head on top of yours, letting you take your time.
quietly sniffling, you pulled away from the hug and rubbed your red nose with the back of your hand. "i'm sorry for throwing myself at you, i shouldn't have-" "it's fine." the blonde female cut you off with her assuring words, causing you to slowly nod in return. "thank you." your voice was slightly above a whisper, yet loud enough for violet to hear. pursing her thin lips into a line, it was now violet's turn to nod in response, before looking down at the floor in a hope of you not seeing her rosy blush, even though the room was partly dark, the moon rays being the only source of illumination.
"was this one of your... night terrors you've mentioned to us before?" furrowing her eyebrows, violet watched as your head suddenly hang low. "yeah, it was." you answered, rubbing the side of your face. silence filled the room, as the blonde's stare remained on your face. "it's just that..." wiping the rest of the salty tears off your face, you started speaking once again. "i hate watching all of you die. i hate watching you die, violet." you confessed, violet's eyes widening at your statement, as she could feel her heart skip a few beats.
"i-" violet remained silent. the corners of your lips curled up into a gentle, toothless smile at her shy state. "i don't want to be a burden to you, vi... but would you mind waiting here 'til i fall asleep? i don't think i'd be able to without your presence." now it was you, who could feel the heat rising inside your cheeks. "if it really helps you." after a few seconds of stillness, the blonde female agreed, causing your small smile grow bigger. turning around, violet closed the door, while you made your way towards your bed and hid under the covers. when violet came back to you, she decided to sit down at the end of your bed, her back leaning against the cool wall.
"i trust you, violet. and i feel safe with you around me, so thank you. once again." you sheepishly muttered, eyes already closed. this time, violet didn't have to worry about her intense blush being visible. "i trust you too, y/n. and you're more than welcome." she answered, shyly playing with her own fingers. the silence filled the room once again, as you slowly drifted into a slumber. imagines from your nightmare flashed right in front of your eyes once in a while, but you always shrugged those off, remembering violet's close presence.
just as you were about to fully fall asleep, a soft voice called out to you. "y/n?" violet nervously, but quietly called out your name. "mhm?" being too tired, all you did was hum in response. "you're not a burden to me." admitting, the blonde lowered her tone. at violet's words, you faintly smiled, before dozing off with the warm, comforting feeling settled inside your chest.

𖤐 growing up, violet never got much attention nor affection. (same, lol) she has a hard time showing affection herself, which sort of explains her rather cold attitude. at the start, just the smallest bit of a affection would make her easily frustrated, but after some time, she realises how nice it feels and even though she'd never admit it out loud, she really enjoys it. holding hands and hugs in private, when it's just the two of you? yeah, she definitely loves that.
𖤐 violet loves fast food. it's not like she eats it all the time, but at the same time, you cannot be very surprised, if you get a message from her asking to go to mcdonald's at 2am for chicken nuggets. the two of you would find a someplace quiet and just enjoy your food or talk about the most random stuff or just chill in silence. sometimes, you'd take the whole group of your friends and spend so much money on food, but it's always worth it, cuz you always have such a good time together..
𖤐 in modern au, violet would watch anime and read manga for sure. one time, she tried watching anime together with louis, who also enjoys it, which was the first, but also last time, because louis would endlessly keep commenting about what is happening on the screen and wouldn't shut up. personally i think her favourites would be attack on titan, jujutsu kaisen, death note and haikyuu..
𖤐 violet is not a fan of taking photos of herself, so your gallery is made out of pictures of her taken in unexpected moments. your favourite is the one, where she was taking a nap on your couch, which she told you to delete, but you obviously didn't. she looks way too pretty in that one..
𖤐 the biggest cat person to exist. if violet sees a random cat on the street, she'll approach it and pet, if the cat lets her. you practically have to drag her away from the cat, because otherwise she'll play with it for hours. in modern au, she has two cats, who are her babies and she doesn't need anyone else. oh and don't be surprised, if you come over to her house and she'll pay most of her attention to her cats..
