I’d Wait Forever (Minerva McGonagall)

You'd spent your entire life believing in magic. You'd been taken in by every fantasy novel and you'd come to understand the multiple rules of multiple universe's magic. You were quite possibly the most open-minded muggle in the world. But you were so young. Barely 25, you'd barely lived. You were just figuring yourself out.

That's how you met her. She'd only visited your community garden a few times and was only just making it a routine when you'd dropped the seed to a rare flower. Appalled at yourself and terrified at the prospect of risking floral extinction, you dropped to your knees and searched the ground. The small, white bead would have been easy to find under usual circumstances, but there were pebbles all over a fucking garden. You moved your head to look under a table of potted plants and found a cluster of white, tiny balled beads. You crawled beneath the metal and picked up one white ball and tossed it over your shoulder. It was too smooth. You heard the small rock hit the bottom of the table before landing on the ground again. You were under that table long enough to be viewed as a lunatic.

When you finally found the textured, veiny seed, you turned and, still on hands and knees, and crawled back out. Unfortunately, your head bumped into someone's legs. You looked up, deer in the headlights-esque.

The woman you bumped into had a severe resting bitch face. She stared at your kneeling form with the stern expression of a firm teacher.

Fortunately, she was gorgeous. With dark hair and shining green eyes, you were instantly enamored. You flushed, embarrassed, then laughed. "My apologies. Lost a seed." You helped yourself to stand and stayed beside the tall woman.

She didn't speak for a moment. "Well, I was looking for trillium, but apparently, they're out of those."

"No, no!" you argued. You pulled that last packet of said herbs, the bag badly torn, from your pocket. You held up your discovered seed for show. "The bag wouldn't open easily so I had to use force. Of course, that always backfires." You turned exaggeratedly to find the trowel and you dropped the first seed, then all the rest left back in the bag. You fished the remaining seeds from your pocket. You placed them all in the same shovel. You presented them to her with a smile.

The severe look on her face blinked away with a faint smile.

You stood straighter, taking the win. "That's better." You smiled wider, entranced by the stoic woman's slowly melting walls. "Do you have a pot?"

Green eyes moved to examine the table. You saw the recognition in her gaze and she reached for a red and gold painted plant pot. She showed it off a little dramatically and you fawned over it accordingly.

Your finger traced down a gold lion you thought was painted well, but was actually an emblem. "This is amazing craftsmanship," you praised.

The woman smiled. "Thank you. It's a loan from the school I work at. The lion is my house's mascot."

You smiled up at her abashedly. While her emerald orbs were beautiful, they were breath-taking when as dark as they were now. She was so much taller than you too and that was quite the view. "Would you rather plant the seeds alone or could you use a hand?" you offered.

"I would appreciate the aid. I hardly exceeded expectations in Herbology." She was Scottish too, your secret weakness. Handing the pot over to you, you flushed when your fingers brushed.

You set the pot on the table again. "Herbology? I've never heard botany classified like that." You laughed good-naturedly.

That reminded the woman that you were a muggle. She had fallen for a muggle before and it ended poorly. She decided in that moment that she would be polite, but firm to deter the crush she could see coming on. Polite yet firm. She was used to that. Polite yet firm. It was her perpetual state. But then you introduced yourself, and you were so courteous. You clearly didn't want to crush on her anymore than she wanted you to. You held out your hand all the same. She took and stared at your naively young face. "Minerva McGonagall."

Minerva could've sworn your face glowed with the strength of every star in the cosmos. Oh, dear.

But you were already turned back to the table, scooping dirt into the pot and planting a few. "So this trillium won't bloom until next spring. How many?" you asked, covering 3 seeds with the soil.

"Can we fit two more? And that's alright. I won't need to brew anything with it for some time anyway."

You struck your finger in the soil and swirled it until you deemed it deep enough to toss a seed into. You did it again, babbling, "I've never heard of trillium in a tea. I added it to a stew once, or was that lily root? Well, either way, that's interesting. Is it to help with allergies or so?"

Minerva scolded herself for not censoring her words. She was so used to others of her kind, both adolescent and grown that she didn't realize. You felt familiar too, like she had known you forever.

"May-maybe I could, um, help. With- with the tending. Trillium's awful hard to get to stem. You st-staying around here?" you asked anxiously. "Since you're not... great with plants."

The teenage nervousness bemused Minerva and she nodded pleasantly. You looked relieved. She picked up the pot. "I'll send a letter," she bade, walking away.

You frowned, though still hopeful. "You don't have my address!"

She just laughed mysteriously.

The greenhouse door shut behind her and you turned back to the table, tending to your plants. Your eye caught a glitter from your peripheral. You faced the shine head-on and picked up another lion emblem. You raced after Minerva, ran out the glass doors, but Minerva was nowhere in sight. You slowly re-entered the greenhouse in the community garden.

Miriam stood by your table, looking around. Her eye caught yours and she smiled. "Was there a tall, Scottish woman with a red pot around here? I was looking for the seeds she wanted." In her hand were 5 packs of Trillium seeds.

You held up the torn pack. "I helped."

Miriam placed her palm on her forehead. "You know I love you, but would you please stop acting like you work here?!" she pleaded with you.

You laughed manically, slowly stepping back and back until you could slip out the door. "Never!"

The evening had yet to end, hence you cooking dinner. You padded around the kitchen, humming under your breath. You bobbed your head or swayed to the classics playing exclusively for you. The tv in the living room turned on as you removed your pan from the stove top. The knob switched off behind you. The tv started playing what you sang. You spun to face it. Multiple emotions rose in you: wonder, of course, confusion, terror. Things like this happened to you and around you all the time. From the reactions of those around when this happened, not everyone experienced such unusual events. With the words being sung on tv, you felt free enough to sing them as well.

A ticking on your window distracted you to examine it. An... owl stood on your window sill, a rope tying a rolled up piece of paper to its leg. It tapped its beak on the glass again then shook its leg.

You slowly approached the window and unlatched it. The incredibly well-trained owl let himself in to perch on your kitchen counter. Slowly, you untied the string around its leg. The bird flew back out the window. You jolted at the sudden flap and movement. Unfolding the paper, you read the fancy handwriting.

'It was a pleasure to make your acquaintance in the Greenhouse today . Would you be open to meeting again tomorrow, earlier? Say, 10? With understanding that you cannot reply, I will be there all day. In further understanding that you may not wish to entertain an old woman with company, I shall not be offended if you do not show. Minerva Orland

It was getting dark, your legs hurt, Rogue was out of magic power, and Minerva was crankier than usual. The three of you plus Frosh went out on a mission today, and you only went to support them. You practically hid the whole time until they needed you. But when you got to the train station, you had discovered the train would be out of service for the next two nights due to maintenance.

So now, here you are, walking back to Sabertooth with your cranky girlfriend and guild mates, anxious for what may come. And of course, just ahead, are the woods. And you know what lives in the woods? Forest Vulcans. And you know what Forest Vulcans do? They eat people. Or make women marry them. As soon as you see the forest, you jump behind your girlfriend. She turns and offers a reassuring smile, and you see Rogue raise a brow at you.

“(Y/n), come on. It’s just the forest, you know nothing will hurt you as long as I’m here.” She tries, but you continuously shake your head no at her. “(Y/n) it’s just the woods you can do this.” Rogue chimes in, but you’ve shaken your head so hard your brain feel’s like mush. You can’t protest any longer, and Minerva knows you get like this all the time, so she just takes your hand and keeps moving. You don’t pay attention to your surroundings or what’s happening, lost in space.

Minerva, Rogue and Frosh are on high alert though, and they know they can protect you. However, as they continue walking deeper into the forest, Frosh picks up on the sound of some stomping before his friends do, but even by then it’s too late. “Frosh thinks something is coming.” She smiles worriedly, and the stomps get louder. All of the sudden, Rogue is sent flying across the forest, and Minerva looks over to see 3 men from a dark guild in a neighboring town.

Because you were in la la land, Minerva let go of your hand to go fight for you 4, but two men had already got the upper hand of her, and instead of trying to fight she looked over to see the third heading your way. “(Y/n)! Snap out of it, please!” She screams, and at that moment you hear her voice reaching out to you. You quickly take care of the first guy, then took out the other two men like it was nothing, and Minerva looked on in shock.

“(Y/n), you’re scared of a Vulcan but not people attacking?” She laughs in disbelief. All of the sudden, Rogue comes running through the trees. Frosh comes out from behind the tree where she was hiding, and you blush. “I had no idea you were so strong, look at you go.” She praises you, and you nod happily.

Brandish μ

The two of you were searching the world for Aquarius’ key together, and the task was no easy feat. In fact, thats how the two of you met, while she was on her journey. You were currently making your way across the ocean in a boat, minding your own business.

And things seem to be going smoothly for now, even though you hate the ocean. You knew if anyone tried to hurt you, Brandish could just snap her fingers and they’d be the size of a roach. The fact that you were in the middle of a bottomless pit of water was what scared you. Your book was keeping your mind off of that thought though.

That was until you noticed the bubbles coming up ahead in the water, and as the boat moved closer you could see the large dark shadow, which grew larger and larger.You felt the knot in your stomach forming as your boat drew closer to it. “B-brandish!” You yelp, nowhere for you to hide with the impending doom you felt was coming.

As your boat landed on top of it, you felt the water beneath you begin to sink, and the boat got sucked beneath you two. Brandish got pulled below the water, and you almost let your panic take over. But she needed you now. You swam below the water to see what was pulling you down, and used your magic to take care of the creature sucking you in.

You both pop back up above the water, now boat-less, but that doesn’t seem to be a problem to her. “Are you okay? That was such a pain, I had no idea that sea creature was there.” She mumbles, and you finally let yourself dissolve in the water. “There you go again. Come on.” She says, enlarging herself and putting you on her back while she swam on to find a new ride.

Kagura Mikazuchi

Kagura wanted to bring you out to train. She knew how terribly shy you were, and she knew it’d be the same thing to get you killed one day. She didn’t want to ever see that day come, she loved her partner so much.

She brought you into the mountains, much to your reluctance. The mountains had all kinds of scary bugs and creatures that could hurt you. She sees how terrified you are of everything, and she knows she can’t change who you are, but she can definitely help change how you handle your fears.

While walking up the mountain however, a huge thing flew over you in the sky. You hid smushed behind a rock, the only thing you could possibly hide behind. “Really (Y/n)? This is the reason we’re out here together.” She shouts at you, before the bird-like-creature flies down at her. She tries to hit it with arch enemy, but misses, and is pinned down by the birds large foot.

You watch your girlfriend struggle, and without thinking you spring into action, taking the bird out in one breath attack. Kagura blinks and lays on the ground for a moment, then sits up and looks at you. You cry, running up and hugging her. “That was so scary please can we go home now?” You sob, and she laughs.

“I wouldn’t have brought you out here had I known the levels of your strength. Still, we can continue this another day, in another location.” She laughs a little, standing up with you in her arms.

Yukino Agria

The two of you were doing a little shopping. More like, Yukino was shopping for you and you were hiding behind her. She found your anxious antics to be silly most of the time, so she never minded it. It was still a peaceful day she got to be able to spend with her significant other.

You’d gone into town because you wanted a new guitar and Yukino wanted some snacks from local food vendors. Despite your anxiety, you really were enjoying your time with your girlfriend. Yukino had the kind of smile and sweet voice that could make you forget what was happening around you, which was what made you fall in love with her.

And everything was fine, until it wasn’t. Out of nowhere, there’s an explosion coming from the distance. People began running in any direction they could to get away from wherever it was coming. You panicked, and without thinking you jumped into the closest garbage can.

“(Y/n), I need to figure out what’s happening. You don’t have to come with me but—“ Yukino gets cut off by someone running into her and pushing her over. Next thing you know, a loud roar can be heard close by. You hear Yukino scream and peek out, just to see a Wyvern has found its way out here.

You jump out to save Yukino, brining the Wyvern down in just 3 hits with your magic, and Yukino can’t believe her eyes. When you look at her to see if she’s okay, she’s smiling at you. “Babe I had no idea you could do that! You’re so cool!” She compliments you, and you blush, walking over to help her up. All the towns people are coming to thank you, but you quickly jump back in the trash can before they can see you, and all Yukino can do is laugh.

A visit to the castle

A/N : I actually really loved writing about this pairing! I never really thought much about Minerva x reader, but I honestly love it!

Run down : Every month, reader visits the castle and visits their beloved wife Minerva. All the students just happen to love the reader too! Set after the war.

Ever since the war, you had been more worried about your beloved wife. You never realized how much you hated her being so far away till after the war, before hand, you had visited every now and then. Now, you visited a weekend every month or so, and during the christmas holidays when most of the students were away. It was so nice to visit her, it was good for her to take breaks from work too. Plus, the students had started to like you, even if they barely saw you. You knew how much she loved to talk about you to the student, you knew she missed you.

You had already put all your belongings in her room, and you were waiting outside in the usually meeting place for when you came to visit. Your heart happily fluttered as you waited for your beloved, it was a warm day, the sun felt calm against your skin. You always cherished these weekends, being able to talk to the students and other professors, being able to hold her. Being held by her even. The war had worried you both, and now more than ever, you cherished all the time you both had together. You both had your arguments in the past, both had a hard time wondering what to do with your life together, her being a professor and all. You were both just glad things worked out.

You saw her, her lips turned into a smile, her features slathered in pure joy as you both made your way to each other. God how you both missed each other, you hadn't seen each other in a month! You had both been quick to hug each other, hold each other when you got close enough, and you basked in her scent, nuzzling into her neck with a happy smile. Home was never the same without her, and yet now, being here in her arms, you felt like you were home. Nothing else mattered to you but her, and vice versa. "I missed you." You softly whispered, your words heavily laced with truth. You had missed her, you always missed her. You felt her arms gently giving you a squeeze before kissing your cheek and pulled away enough to look at you.

She always looked at you with admiration, with nothing but love. "I missed you too my love," Minerva hummed out, she loved your visits. She loved you. Ever since the war ended, the castle never felt the same, and there were still parts closed off. The sense of loss still heavy in the castle. Still lingering in the air. It hurt Minerva- the sensation lingering in the air, the sense of loss, of death that loomed. Students. Friends. Former students. People that she knew since they were children, dead. Taken by such horrible people.. The castle no longer felt the way that it use to, students and parents, even professors had decided to stay away from it.

In a place haunted with death, it was nice to have someone she loved.

"It's amazing to see you again Minnie," you said sweetly to her, and soon enough, the students began to gather by you both. Minerva chuckled at the sight, and the both of you pulled away from the hug, holding each others hands still.

"Well, what are you trouble makers doing?" Minerva asked light heartedly to the students, she was always far less strict when you were around. "My partner and I would like to enjoy our weekend, so you all best be good." She added on, being the headmistress was hard work, she needed a break.

Students giggled at the words, they all knew the headmistress would always put spending the weekend with you over everything else. Not that they minded. The students all loved you. The professors too. They all also loved just how different Minerva was when you visited. She was far less strict, her rules loosened, and a smile rarely leaving her lips. She no longer focused on the trouble makers. Her full attention was placed on her beloved partner.

You smiled at the children, you wanted to visit more often, maybe in the future you would. "Well of course they'll be good, right?" You said to the students, your tone joking and light as you spoke to them, and they just smirked and nodded.

All the students knew when you visited, it was the best time to cause trouble, but they never did. The students liked you.

As per usual when you visited, you and your wife made your way to a nearby tree, some students joining the two of you. The first few hours of your visits to the castle always started with you sitting with Minerva and any students that wanted to stay for a bit. You'd tell them all about your work, about weird or funny things that had happened since you last saw them. It was nice. Being wrapped in Minervas arms. The children all happily talking, all glad to see you again.

Most of the students mostly liked you because of your effect on Minerva. Some liked you because you and Minerva took care of them at school. Students who didn't have a good family or home life, if they stayed at school during holidays, you and Minerva always made sure that they had a good holiday. Some of the students loved you simply because you helped to make Hogwarts feel like home. You loved the students because they helped make Hogwarts feel like home when you visited.

Minerva & Dumbledore are those kind of friends that look at you with that judging look while drinking tea. They probably gossip a lot too. They’re the bad bitches everyone wants to be friends with. but are scared of them cause they look like they could bite your hand off. However when you get to know them, they’re the softest ppl you ever met, they ship everyone, doesn’t matter what gender, skin colour or size. Although they do gossip, it’s not hateful or mean, more like praises or comments about how some dress so stylishly etc. 

Idk i just want Mcgonagall & Dumbledore to be my grandparents.

how bad is her jealousy: she doesn’t get jealous too often, actually. she trusts that you would not leave her (which is hard considering how even her own brother turned against her), but she forces herself to believe as such. 

what makes her jealous: she sees herself as inferior to many others because of her failures as a leader, so seeing you with others she considers stronger than herself (marth, alfonse, titania) makes her have doubts about herself. like said before, she doesn’t think that you’d cheat on you or anything, she just thinks that you deserve better than her. 

what she does to express her jealousy: she’s more distant. she gets lost in her thoughts (all alone). she doesn’t outwardly express her jealousy just because she doesn’t want to burden you with her insecurities (no matter how many times you tell her you’re there to listen!). it’s easy to read her face, though, and you just know when she’s overthinking. you assure her that she’s enough for you (if anything, she’s too good for you), and that assurance helps her for a little while.     + she gets better with her doubts the longer you two are together. it takes a while, but soon through a lot of training and working to improve herself, she doesn’t have as many insecurities. they may never fully go away, but with you at her side she doesn’t let them control her.
