It would have been easy to overlook. There was so much snow. There was a different shade of white though, brighter than the snow around it. Sampire still wasn’t even sure who or what it was when she got to them. Whatever it was, they were freezing. They had fallen unconscious curled up into a ball from the cold. Once, she rolled them over, she finally realized it was a human. A human child, to be specific.
A human child who was about to freeze to death, she remembered mentally snapping herself out of her shock. It would be pointless finding them at all if they died before she could get them to the king.
She carried the child to her home in a hurry. After wrapping the human in a blanket, she quickly lit the few logs in her barely used fireplace. It wasn’t quite big enough, and she didn’t have any more logs to feed into the fire. She grabbed the bundled child and put them in front of the fireplace before going back out the door, locking it behind her.
