She wasn’t supposed to be back here. People weren’t supposed to come back here. This was where the acts were, where the cleaners cleaned and the clothes racks were cleaned and the protesters were never ever supposed to go! Yet she was here, and now- he’d spoken to her! Well, not with words exactly, oh Goddess how mad the ringmaster would be, so many times he’d been told not to speak to people, he wasn’t even supposed to speak around them, the collar on his neck was made to zap him when he did but- but this- this was happening?
Despite everything, there was something about her.. There was something in those eyes that he just… Fell into. He wanted to trust her. Tightly holding the bars that stood between them, the man opened his mouth and took a breath, before catching the end of the next introduction from the other side of the curtain. ‘freak from the forbidden city’? Sounded like his cue. “That’s me..” He muttered, almost calm until the reality hit him again. “Y-you can’t- they’re coming you need to go they’ll ca-” The collar buzzed into action, sensing the vibrations of his speech and making sure he suffered for it. Drawing to a crouch, he struggled on. “They’ll… catch-.. you!” Any second that curtain would move, he’d be pulled out and who knew what they’d make him do this time. But it wouldn’t be anything if they caught the two of them together like this!
The words from the woman were surprising- for a moment, he couldn’t be sure he’d even heard her right- but thankfully by the time he could straighten up again, she was gone. He’d never see her again… But she was safe away from here. But what was it she’d said..? ‘won’t let them’? ‘tonight’? What about tonight, had she really said… Regardless, he didn’t have time to think about it now. It was showtime. Everything else, would have to wait ‘til later.He just prayed that girl was true to her word.
