BEST AUDIENCE EVER! FIB Benicassim Day 2
In our opinion, the lineup for day two at FIB was weaker than the other three days at the festival here in Benicassim, but that didn't stop us from having an amazing night anyway! If you follow our Twitter feed, you'll k best audience ever!! FIB 2013 day 2 now we spent the best part of the day recharging our batteries on the beach, and it did us a world of good, having arrived on Thursday pretty wrecked from a crazy week. As we were lounging under the boiling hot rays, iPods a-blasting with our FIB playlists, we even got given free vodka jelly shots by a very sweet young man, who then proceeded to sell them to everyone else...we must have looked like we were in dire need of alcohol!!! Probably because we haven't been drinking like we do on a usual weekend!!! After chatting with Ron from Hanni El Khatib on Thursday night backstage, who taught us that the Poppy is the official state flower of California (you NEVER go to bed without learning something new) it was our top priority to catch their set, and and boy! are we glad we did, a perfectly perfect start to the evening as the sun went down behind the benicassim hills. Dizzee Rascal followed with an ever energetic bounce all over the stage, bringing the biggest audience we've seen so far hits like the classic Fix Up, Look Sharp to Bonkers to You've Got the Love (the Florence version). We glowed a fair bit after that (as my grandma would say: Horses sweat, men perspire, ladies glow) and headed back to the VIP for a cool Heineken, curious to find out just WHO the middle aged blond dude with white, early nineties wraparound sunglasses was, as anybody and everybody approached him and his skinny, also platinum blonde girlfriend for a handshake, and both of them were absolutely lapping up the attention. I'm sorry to say we never did find out. After seeing, hearing and reading beautiful reviews of Swim Deep, we had to catch them live, and they did not disappoint. Apparently, we as an audience did not either, as Austin proclaimed we were the best crowd they'd ever had! Warmed the cockles of our hearts, that's for sure. FIB veterans Primal Scream played their best Benicassim set ever, and we rocked out, hard, along with thousands of others. Our favourite BBC Radio 1 DJ, Zane Lowe, played not one, but TWO sets in one night, first on the Pringles stage, then on the main Maravillas stage, much to the delight of our ecstatic, dancey, shape-throwy inner selves. Or maybe outer selves, as that is what we are like about 80% of the time. A 4 am walk home and crash into bed was super overdue after Mr Lowe tired us out - twice - and we needed a good night's sleep to prepare for today's long list of set clashes that may or may not bring an end to Lolita and my friendship - will it be Rizzle Kicks or Arctic Monkeys? Kaiser Chiefs or Bastille? Only tonight will tell. Until tomorrow, fibers! xxx Anita D.
