Apollo, athena
Apollo (what are your favorite pieces of poetry?) - This is a tough one so forgive me giving you a bunch of things I did in school. I like poetry and I probably have read ones I’ve liked since, but I’m a novels person through and through.So.1. Vergissmeinnicht (Forget-Me-Not) - Keith Douglas: I will always know this one off by heart. To me, it’s the best war poem I’ve read because of its emphasis of the enemy being just the same as you, so why are you fighting?
2.My Last Duchess by Robert Browning - A very interesting poem with a compelling storyline from what I remember. Also, Dylan dared me to get the name of the artist in it’s name on the back of my secondary school leavers hoody so it now says ‘Fra Pandolf’ on.
3.Loads of Burns stuff, but I can’t be bothered to get my Burns book out and pick a favourite. (Fun tip - Though Robert Burns is from Ayrsire, the oldest Burns club was established in Greenock, my home town!)
4. I probably have others I’ve read since school but I can’t remember any of them. HOWEVER, I have a book of the lyrics of the Divine Comedy and it sort of feels like it should actually be called ‘The Poetry of Neil Hannon’ because his lyrics really suit themselves to poetry. I recommend reading ‘A Lady of a Certain Age’ and then listening to the album version and then looking upLa Biblioteque’s Take Away show version of it on Youtube. And then report back to me with your opinion, whether you find it pleasing or not. Neil means a huge amount to me so I plug him at every opportunity but pretty much no one takes me up on it, which sucks. I mean, I think he’s wonderful, his music has so much variation and he’s like a genre in himself. Sorry. I’ll stop gushing. :P You don’t have to follow my instructions if you don’t want to.
Athena (what are your favorite classic novels?); Ah! Another tough one. My favourites are Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Alice hrough the Looking Glass but I’m I am almost exclusively a modern literature problem. From what I’ve read of Wuthering Heights, I liked that, but it wasn’t mine and I was in someone else’s house passing time. I like HG Wells as well, though it’s been ages since I’ve read anything by him.Not the best responses, but then the questions weren’t very suited to me. I hope I did okay though, I tried my best. Thanks again, they’re always fun. Sometimes even more so when they are challenging. :) x
