“You’re living your best life.“ - Gabby 💕
Week 2:
This post is dedicated to my favorite music duo, Majid Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman known as Majid Jordan. They are a Toronto-based production duo currently signed to Drake’s and Noah "40" Shebib’s OVO Sound. The two artists met while attending the University of Toronto. They discovered each other’s strong ear for music and appreciation for similar sounds. The two recorded and finished the “Afterhours EP” and published it on SoundCloud under the anonymous name “Good People”. Within 24 hours they were contacted by “40″ and were quickly signed to his label. In 2013, they helped write and produce Drake's hit "Hold On, We're Going Home”. In 2016, the duo released their first album self-titled “Majid Jordan”. The concept was for the album to be an introduction to the next level in the journey in music. It had more songs than the EP, more content, more styles of music, and more speeds and tempos. Majid Jordan’s best quality is its intimate feel, sounding like each song is the extension of a conversation and is to be heard by a specific set of ears I love their music because it’s very different from the majority of mainstream music. The songs on the album are unique in that they are formed from many genres. Combined with Majid’s voice, you get music that you is R&B fused with electronic house rhythms. There are songs that you sit back and chill to, and songs that make you want to break out on a dance floor. Songs like “Love Is Always There” and “Warm” are certainly lethargic whereas, “Shake Shake Shake” has a lot of energy. My personal favorites from the album are “Learn From Each Other”, “King City”, and “Something About You”. However, for me, this is one of those albums where all the songs are amazing, not just one or two. If you listen to them and is interested in more look out for their upcoming album “The Space Between” releasing October 27, 2017.
